Hyena's e-bike builds (now with HD video)

Thank you very much Rix and Hyena for the pics :D

19 rear+24 front seems to be perfect

Hyena i dont now if i understood you  It is posible to use 24" wheel with a 19 rim?

I havent been online much Hyena, but awesome build on the yellow Raptor (nearly said Phasor - I blame Rix!)

Are Freudian Slips viral?

Nope, although the final rolling diametre is very similar you wont get the bead of a 19" moto tyre to fit a 24" bicycle rim.
You can however use a 19" moto tube with a fat 24" rim and tyre. The tube ID is ever so slightly too small for the rim but stretches on fine and moto tubes are typically tougher than bicycle ones.

Thanks mate. Now I've set myself a difficult benchmark to top!

Not sure, but I know nipple slips often are

Speaking of viral, I see my youtube channel has just passed 1 million views. As I posted on my FB page I know that's nothing compared to some of the crazy viral videos and those posted by 'youtube celebrities' but not bad for a bloke stooging around on his electric bikes :)
Pity google saw fit to ban my adsense account, I could have made a bit of pocket money from all those (and ongoing) views!

Thanks mate.
There's more pics on the HEB facebook page.
Here's another one the new owner just sent me.

and another. Made in Sydney :)

Should say "Proudly made in Sydney". Damn nice build. Like that old school yellow black look from the days of Kenny Roberts.

I had a great EV / bike themed long long weekend :)
I took Friday off work and went down for a ride along the beach. It was much tougher going than usual with the sand being particularly soft and power sucking then I realised we have king tide at the moment so the sand is less compacted than it usually is at the waters edge.
I actually got waved down by a guy up a remote end of the beach who said "is this one of those raptors ? I've been thinking about getting one of these" Given how few of these there are in the country I was surprised at the recognition!
After doing 60km on the raptor I took it home and put it on the charge, then swapped over to the madass and took it for a run down the coast. As much as I really want to convert it to electric it's just such a hoot to ride as it is now. I won't miss the vibration that centrifuges the blood in your feet above 80km/hr (the foot pegs are bolted to the bottom of the engine!) but with the close ratio gear box geared for a top speed of just over 100km/hr and the high compression 160cc motor it's so much fun to throw through the gears. You feel like you're going fast but you can wind it out in 3rd on a twisty 70km/hr speed limited road and barely be over the limit

Saturday I met up with a mate who has a pretty kitted out FPV quadcopter set up. We did some a practise run and just as well as his screen wasnt working and he ended up crashing it into some rocks and chipped his gopro lens. Doh!
Sunday he sorted the screen issues and we spent most of the day out and about getting aerial shots - or trying to!
We spent much more time fishing the copter out of the trees and repairing it than actually flying but it was still good fun. It's certainly not as easy to get these shots as it appears in other videos. This copter was drifting a bit on occasion (despite using a gps lock) which in a heavily tree'd environment made for tough times. I've also come to realise that where I largely ride is too heavily grown in in general and even the wider fire trails had over hanging branches that made for a limited flying zone. In the end we had the most success on an oval, albeit a bit less interesting in terms of scenery. The likes of out where you ride Rix would be ideal for chasing around with one of these things.

You could get some great vids with an airdog Rix! https://www.airdog.com/
Otherwise it's definitely a 2 man job - ideally even 3 man - one to ride, one to fly and one to control the camera gimbal.

I forgot to post the vid here to round out last weekends EV fun, this little drift trike a mate built.
He custom made the frame, I did all the electrics.
Unfortunately he underestimated the torque on the torque on the axle nuts and originally made it with foot pegs that bolted over the axle with the nut inside. In other words the base of the footpeg was basically a washer between the nut and the dropout. Needless to say this wasnt adequate and 10 seconds into the first test ride the motor ripped out and the forks plowed into the ground. Fortunately I was only going slow and being an inch off the road it was the most pleasurable front wheel dropout failure I've experienced

He's since welded the pegs directly to the base of the forks but after getting a taste for it a much higher powered version is now in the works.
Here's the vid of us testing it sans pegs, just balancing out legs on the frame or in the air. Certainly not ideal but we still had a bit of fun with it.

Hey that's an awesome idea!
You could adapt some standard type foot pegs with a pin and lever to on the end to look like flashbangs or similar 8)

My annual interstate work conference is coming up again and this time it's on the Gold Coast.
Any locals up that way who want to catch up for a beer and/or ride check out this thread :)
I'll be in town from the 27th of March.

edit: and here, have a quadcopter burnout screen-shot while I'm taking my time editing the footage :p

Latest hotness under construction. Good thing I've got those carbon fibre handlebars to offset all that beefcake

hey Scientist, wheres this drone vid?
Yeah I know...

I have mountains of footage to sort though and no time to do it. I have some nice shots down at the beach too I want to edit too but I more importantly I need to finish off my website so I can get serious about stuff. Then start on my e-moto conversion. I'm thinking I'm actually going to ditch the madass now and go with something else. I'll be buying the donor bike in the next few weeks so will post it up then.

Did you ever end up getting the results of that dyno test showing what CA watts it really takes to give 200W at the wheel?
Sadly that's another thing I haven't had time to get around to yet. I will definitely chuck this next bike on the dyno though so will be do so then.

Probably a super modded Sabvotan. That's what I am betting.
Rix knows my MO!
Probably not even super modded, they do 350 phase amps out of the box which has been damn impressive on the TC80 so on a faster wind, 25% wider it can only be better.
That said, never say never and I may end up modding it sooner rather than later.
I just bought the batteries for it, hobbyking AU just got stock back in this morning of the multistar 16000mah packs so I'll be running 22S2P (3x6S +1x4S to make up the series count) Yeah they're not the highest C rate around but running 2P for 32ah they'll rarely be over 2C in general riding and only blinking over 4C on hard launches or the steepest of climbs.

This bike will be the performance test bed for my new e-moto build. Depending on how I find the performance I think I'm probably going end up running dual sabvoton controllers. Maybe even go full retard with a dual stator motor too
It'll be heavy in the tail but for street riding it shouldn't be an issue.

Oh yeah, and I bought a giant downhill comp the other day too. Couldn't help myself :p
Not sure if I''ll keep it as is and build it up as a conversion of rob it of parts for a raptor build. Some of the bits will end up wasted which would be a shame as it has some high end gear on it. It has a hope 2 rear hub which has the noisiest freewheel ratcheting sound I've ever heard. I dont know if it's buggered or this is an indication of being heavy duty but damn, it sounds like a stick in the spokes when you coast!

When I first picked it up I thought "wow, this is so light". Said no one about a 10 year old downhill ebike, ever. haha
I'm used to lifting the seat to move bikes with 10kg hub motors on them and with my brain using this pre-programmed amount of required effort I nearly threw this through a wall.
It has the most odd seat I've ever seen though. It's long and fat, almost like an old school banana seat!

Jesus that does look like a "how's your mother?".

I'm about to weld up three DH comps. Wanna up the count?
