I don't know what a hall sensor is for e bike

We'll need to know more than that.

Your motor will have (x) hall sensors. The f(x) will be that each would have a connection to the controller. Do your motor and controller match? Are there hall sensors involved AT ALL?

Tune in next time, when perhaps there'll be pictures and/or model numbers to help people figure this one out.

Hall sensors are small switches that tell the controller what position the moving parts inside the motor currently are, they toggle on/off relative to the magnets inside the motor passing over a North or South face magnetic pole.

If your motor has Hall sensors ( and some do not ) the motor will have 3 thick power wires, and 5 smaller gauge wires, the smaller gauge wires are for the hall sensors... usually

-black
-red
-Blue
-Green
-Yellow

the black/red are power, the other 3 represent signal.

Read the pictorial section about testing Hall sensors:

You know what you mean and what you think you need to know but you haven't told anyone else what it is. If you expand your question by giving more detail of what you have and what you want to know then you'll be more likely to get the help you are looking for.
Good luck!
