Is there a way to transfer music directly from IPad to IPod via the cable?

Every search comes up with a transfer ipad to computer then to ipod, or do it via iTunes.

I only know how to do it computer to ipod. With 30,000 CD's in I tunes, we have to have a master iTunes music file on a terabyte backup drive anyway.

I guess an I pad has to do a synch, just like an ipod? I never knew any way to save your stuff from an ipod, only the master files on a regular computer.

Don't buy your tunes from iTunes either, then it gets fussy about letting you keep them when you upgrade your computer. Buy music for 50 cents a CD at garage sales.

I dont use an Ipod, my mom does, so she buys everything on itunes and I know about that problem with it.

I had an old Dell Laptop that I used Linux on, that I downloaded entire discographies onto.
Everything was in my truck when it got stolen. Laptop is gone now with its 2TB external drive and all my USB drives that I used for the truck deck. The USB sticks would always fall out when driving on even gravel roads with water board ruts. Offroad it was even worse.

Will have to buy a used laptop now, and redownload everything. Good news is that it didnt take too long.
But thats another $150 for a used laptop and another $100 for external drive.

I just replaced my terabyte drive for $60. My local walmart had a sale. Had to do the freeze it trick repeatedly to recover the stored pictures from the old external drive. Now that irreplaceable stuff is backed up twice, once on the new terabyte, and again on a 64gig thumb drive. Actually, three times, since I'm putting all the pictures back on the main desktop too.

We could never lose the music, but the idea of having to rip 3000 cd's again is a nightmare.
