Another California record.. We just had the world's hottest recorded rain... It was 119, and residents of the area described it a suffocating sweltering mist as it was evaporating in mid air and off the scorching pavement.

We've been warned.
Runaway global warming on our planet remains a distinct possibility in the decades and centuries ahead, scientists reported Monday in a new study, warning that a "hothouse Earth" threatens the very “habitability of the planet for human beings.”
Such a hothouse Earth climate would see global average temperatures some 6 to 8 degrees Fahrenheit higher than they are now, with sea levels 30 to 200 feet higher than today, the paper said.
In addition, even if the carbon emission reductions called for in the Paris Agreement are met – meaning a rise of no more than 3.6 degrees above preindustrial levels – that still may not be enough.
Study lead author Will Steffen said "our study suggests that human-induced global warming of (3.6 degrees) may trigger other Earth system processes, often called ‘feedbacks,’ that can drive further warming – even if we stop emitting greenhouse gases."
The feedbacks include methane release from thawing permafrost, loss of snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere, loss of Arctic summer sea ice, and dramatic reduction of Antarctic sea ice and polar ice sheets.
“These tipping elements can potentially act like a row of dominoes," said study co-author Johan Rockstrom of the Stockholm Resilience Centre, an independent research institute that specializes in sustainable development and environmental issues.
Global warming is caused by the burning of fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal, which release greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and oceans. Those gases have caused global temperatures to rise to levels that cannot be explained by natural causes.
The London Evening Standard (or simply Evening Standard) is a local, free daily newspaper, published Monday to Friday in tabloid format in London. It is owned by Russian businessman Alexander Lebedev. It is the dominant local/regional evening paper for London and the surrounding area, with coverage of national and international news and City of London finance. In October 2009, the paper ended a 180-year history of paid circulation and became a free newspaper, doubling its circulation as part of a change in its business plan.
“Runaway” global warming is set to cause permanent extreme weather, including prolonged summer droughts and severe winter flooding in the UK, leading scientists have warned.
University academics warned exceptionally hot weather, as Brits have experienced this summer, could become the norm and cause the deaths of "a whole lot of plants and animals".
Meanwhile, in winter, the UK could regularly face the threat of flooding as sea levels continue to rise.
It comes as research suggested the Earth could be just decades away from a “hothouse” state because of irreversible warming.
The report claimed the planet is not far off a climatic tipping point that triggers an irreversible level of “runaway” global warming, even if countries meet CO2 targets.

In Incheon, South Korea, this week, representatives of over 130 countries and about 50 scientists have packed into a large conference center going over every line of an all-important report: What chance does the planet have of keeping climate change to a moderate, controllable level?
When they can’t agree, they form “contact groups” outside the hall, trying to strike an agreement and move the process along. They are trying to reach consensus on what it would mean — and what it would take — to limit the warming of the planet to just 1.5 degrees Celsius, or 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit, when 1 degree Celsius has already occurred and greenhouse gas emissions remain at record highs.

OK, does that mean I can fart legally now?

Do you know the story of "Glacier Girl" ?billvon said:Runoff from Greenland reaches record highs - again. Author - “From a historical perspective, today’s melt rates are off the charts. We found a 50 percent increase in total ice sheet meltwater runoff versus the start of the industrial era, and a 30 percent increase since the 20th century alone.”

On the chance that this is a serious question -Hillhater said:Do you know the story of "Glacier Girl" ?
Its one of the several P38s that were forced to land on the Greenland ice cap in 1942,
When an expedition went to recover them in 1988 they were eventually found (using ground radar), burried under 264 ft of ice. And in the 4 years it took to retrieve Glacier Girl from under the ice, another 15 ft of ice had accumulated from compacted snowfall.
So "surface melt runoff" is not a process i can easily visualise in those circumstances !

Not so fast . Looney liberal politicans are liable to suugest some type of methane taxation on human flatulence. Sounds like the perfect bill for someone like Maxine Waters to be in charge of.

Al Gore predicted all the polar caps would be melted....years ago. It never happened. Time to kick in more hysteria and make more bullshit predictions because that tax money would come in handy for our corrupt govt leaders.

I just want to see one of their overblown fantasy nightmares become reality.
...then i'd adjust my diet, because i am always looking for ways to reduce my tax liability ( as every citizen should )
