I've confirmed at least one hall is bad (via Lyen's ebike tester). I had him send me 3 halls to replace them all at the same time. I cracked open my 5305 and am feeling in over my head.

I put a note out to Ilia at ebikes-sf, but haven't heard back yet.

Is there anyone else I should look up for some hands on hall replacement help and/or service?

I'm afraid a $10 replacement of the hall sensors might turn out to be a whole lot more in my inexperienced hands.

Ilia should answer your PM soon. You're lucky to live there cause here, you'd have to do it yourself.
Not a big job to do though, you should give it a try.

Well it looks like I may be alone after all. No word from Ilia.

I have the motor apart now, but how in the world do I get the halls out underneath all that varnish and hard wiring?

Is there a DIY thread on this somewhere?

Are you sure it is a hall, and not just a hall wire?

Either way. But I might as well replace the halls while I have her open.

And, either way I'm in the same situation... How in the world do I replace anything under all that varnish and hard wiring?

Can you post a pic? I've done it on 9c motors, but not an X5

I'm sat here with a 9C motor replacing the halls as I type...well not at the same time  But you pics made me feel better about my job and sorry for you. Damn that looks like a pain in the arse to get the wires through the windings.
