It looks like a microcontroller is optional to use with it. so no software required to program it.
only does 7 cells, but you can chain more than one together.
dont think the balance current is very high though, plus it time multiplexes it thru each cell to a single balance resistor?
The chip itself is only 13 dollars or so for 7 cells.
