Jetson Bike Speed modification

20130826_161740 (2)-1.jpgI just recently purchased a Jetson bike and I love it even with 2 people on it. I noticed it was slugish up hills so I did some research on electric bike controllers and I found that if you disconnect the white loop wire out of the Haoling Controller it gave it a boost. Does anyone know if there any more mods I can make to increase throttle functions?

You could try the shunt mod with solder, for even more amps. At some risk of blowing the controller. Just a small blob of solder is best.

More volts, which would take a new controller is the sure bet for more speed on both hills and flats.

That thing might have two seats, but I assure you it's not made for hauling two people up steep hills. Watch out for overheating the motor. If you can't hold a hand on the cover without severe burns, stop.

I have touched the Motor for that and it doesn't even get luke warm so in short it does a great job hauling 300lbs with no over heating........... do you have any info on where to apply the Solder? Thank You

You have to take the controller out and open it up. Inside somewhere is one or more pieces of thick wire like a staple. The idea is to spred some solder over one end to reduce is resistance. About 30% of it's length is as far as you should go. There's always a risk, but you should be OK with that. Here's a couple of photos. If you're unsure, post a photo of the inside of the controller.

Thanks for posting that pic.

If the motor runs slow enough up hills long enough, it will get hot. But short hills are okay, the motor can cool again once the hill is over. Chances are it's a relatively slow winding that climbs hills cooler, but results in slower top speeds on the flat.

But after the shunt modification, keep an eye on the heat climbing the hills. It could heat up more after the mod.

Could someone be able to post clearly how to disable the speed control on the Jetson electric bike? I am tired of having to scoot at 20 mph and watch everything else zoom by me... :(

Ok I was able to get the Jetson bike speed limit disabled buy simply unplugging the white cable as mention by OP. Now it scoots at 25 mph instead of the normal 20 mph. :D

I pretty much ride it along even roads so this helps me a lot!

Ok guys, I made a video on how to disable the speed controller:

how to disable the speed controller

Thanks for posting this. It worked well to get up to a speed of 24 mph.

I have a battery issue, in that it's not keeping a charge for a longer range of 2 miles.

What has your battery experience been so far?

I picked one of these up used, also applied the mod mentioned above and works great.

The battery I got is pretty much done, however. I will be building a new one in the next few months.
