Jive bike

Its all just way to early to heap on criticism. Optimism first for anything promising and criticism on the basis of actual real world test data or experience.

Well, yes... but if you see a machine that ignores enough of the conventions of like machines (and adopts enough of the conventions of failed machines), it becomes safe and easy to draw conclusions about its suitability for purpose.

Bicycles make this kind of speculation particularly easy because of their long established history of successes and failures.

From the link..."jive bike uses a proprietary mechanical drive train enclosed in the frame, that needs no servicing besides yearly greasing"

... we aim for summer 2015
Missed their original target of 2014, but its a small startup company. I wouldn't want to be part of the initial roll-out, but... If you're a daily commuter using the trains to get into town, this would certainly be an appealing choice.

Its a tough equation to master and this design seems to be approaching that asymptote.

Well DANG. Alt. Planet ES is so huge and I am so small. ES Newz just piles up and flies by. (Forgot to check new postings here EVery day, darn it.)

But my heralds (EG/aka Giggle ...sp?) just mentioned the JIVE via a UK newspaper:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...um-frame-controlled-using-cyclist-s-HEAD.html

(Checking this thread/ES Bible. Reading... reading...)

"EU first." (Check)
"other versions for other countries" (Check)
"20 mile range suspicious." (Check)
"Can still be operated w/dead battery..." (Check)
"... also/separate assist (Bettery-Electric)" (Check (Does not require really long cord.))
"if (any Newz) re *other* folding electrics?" (Please advise. Check)
(Note: Upgrade-ability? Check options re... lip stick color preferences, I guess.)
("folds up"?) (Check)
"light weight" (Check. (Re energy to accelerate a given mass.))
"(paraphrasing) putting in boot - sorry "trunk" - of large, heavy, expensive vehicle=dumb" (Check. Also, check whether storage space on the 40 foot cruiser boat "too confined"/full. Yet.)
(Note: "Good" pubic transit system. Check spelling. Also keep in mind re ES "Joke" thread.)
"looks... very "floppy". "Creaky"" (Check) (Maybe not as much as I?) TBA
(paraphrasing) "Always check" (Check)

OK. "Problem" time. Maybe

*Visibility* (For others to see you.) Currently I'm "recumbent" (three wheeler) flying flags/streamers from flex pole up about adult walking head height.
*Visibility* (Operator eye protection) Depending re head height above ground, flying dust etc may be worse/better.
*Visibility* (plus "Audio-ability") Currently have various sound-signaling devices. Bosuns Call, (squeeze bulb) small trumpet. Various light reflectors. Spinning magnets. (It's an "Ebiker Thang". Tire tube valve caps shiny "silvery" metal clamped on via small magnets. Caps spin w/tires.)
*Visibility* (Longer distances via small telescope.)
(Note: Check coffee/drink holders. Sunscreen?)
(Note: Other "stuff" carry-ability? Baskets, instrumentation, lights, etc.)
All TBA.
*Visibility* (GPS tracking and cameras re catching Bad Grrrls - and Boyz.)
*Visi...* (Oh. Mentioned that already. Sorry)

"(Other bike designs)...long established history of successes and failures." (Check)

(Note: "JIVE" renamed as "JivR". Marketing's a bitch.)
Per recent UK newz "The JIVR Bike, previously known as JIVE Bike. (Check)

Finally, my current (recumbent trike) wheelchair pedal-able `cause rider has inherited "genetic" thingee w/hands (fingers) already crippled. Typically advances/gets worse with "age". *CAN* pedal (feet/legs still work. Sort of) re exercise, warmth, extend ranges EG re any Bettery w/Electric Motor "assist".

Tks

(Also, there is that thing to check re drink holders.)

The next folding bike to be ' the next big breakthrough' will be the first :? Folders don't fold well and are not good bikes.
Put lipstick on a pig and it's still a pig. okay then how do you explain brompton folding bikes popularity ?

http://brompton.com/about-us/history#1
(In 1974-5):
A chance meeting
with a backer of the fledgling Bickerton folding bicycle inspired Andrew Ritchie to come up with a fresh approach to the challenge of designing a folding bike. Andrew Ritchie begins designing a folding bike in his flat, overlooking the Brompton Oratory in South Kensington, London

It's possible many don't have as much knowledge and experiences with their own designs.

Brompton has great branding and loyal following. I'm an owner and love it's compact fold. Joy to ride even though I wish for bigger wheels. Wheelbase same as a regular bike. Recently ebikes.ca selling a brompton conversion kit and Justin mentions the kit is for discerning enthusiasts

Also if you check eBay there are many aftermarket bits that can trick out your brompton.

Also there is the brompton championship race events now in many parts of the world
