I'm getting these annoying messages from Canada Xpress Post telling me EVery step of the way that I'm getting a Cycle Analyst delivered on Monday :D

From the ebikes.ca site:
Water Resistant: The circuitry is fully enclosed in a sealed box enabling it to withstand exposure to wet and rainy conditions.

...so water RESISTANT, not WATER PROOF... Anybuddy here beefed up a CA to make it totally waterproof??? I'll guess it's just a matter of a bead of silicone around the edge of the glass face... This is the standalone CA and it will be mounted face up in an instrument panel...

Tks

Hey Lock,

I have run my cycle analyst for about two years and road in more than a few torrential rains. Didn't seal it up either. Worst problem so far is a bit of condensation inside the view screen. Just let it sit to dry out. For me anyway its been a none issue.

On an unrelated topic, did you visit "Greg" at the new e-bike store on Queen east?

Hi Moo good to hear about the CA. Thanks!

Still waiting to hear from Greg as he is planning a grand opening and I thought it'd be fun to go to that!

Ya i took the A2B for a spin too...real nice solid machine. I let him go for a spin on the "Electric Frankenstein", he sounded real interested in motor kits. Be nice to have a local guy (east end) carrying components yes?
Anyway, ya, seemed like a real cool guy fer sure northernmike.

I've also ridden through some downpours, the first time it completely shorted out and then slowly came back to life the next day. I now keep a few plastic grocery bags with me to cover it in the rain. When I ride in the rain, I'm not to worried about reading my CA info display. It would be nice to have it waterproof though.[googlevid][/googlevid]

If you get the latest version with the membrane buttons, you are set .. the older style with the push button on the right was the weakest link, i've never had a problem with them but one of my customers rides rain shit or shine and he's managed to drown the CA a few times and the button got all wacky on him and had to be blown out with compressed air lol..

The latest version i would dare to call water-proof. ( along with a much improved mounting bracket ! )

That's great news, I haven't gotten my new one wet yet. One less plastic bag to carry around :D

Seems to me that Justin rode through Hurricane Kyle with his.
It was the early style one with a push button.

This is a temperate coastal rain forest climate and I ride weather or not.
There's never been any water problems with mine.

Well, well... Found this thread in a search for "water-proof cycle analyst"...

Honestly not sure watt happened to CA V1, (memory/mind is a bit "foggy" at the moment? Actually, my clients (accounting) always told me I was "bloody minded" about watching their money, and it was made official a year ago, as my daughters now have full-colour pics... Phew... That's a relief, I guess... Hehe...)

Anyway recently "made the leap" to CA V3... And upon the recommendation of our "Chapter President", who installed the V3 for me (and no, it's not THAT "chapter"), `been covering/protecting the CA a bit on rainy daze... Not that funky plasticky bag ebiker trick, but a slightly "updated" silver plasticky food wrapper thingee, so "opaque" for viewing "on the run"... Ermmm... Or wattEVer an ebiker does... Hehe...

So, anyone been swimming with their V3 CA yet? Myself, I only make love to the thing in bed... Having been designed/developed by a guy living on watt some might say is the Canadian Wet Coast, I was kinda thinking by now the CA should be perfectly happy doing the dog paddle, or back stroke, blowing bubbles, etc.

OK, maybe for blowing bubbles, we'll have to wait for V4...

I think one would be able to waterproof much of the CA by using NeverWet by Rustoleum. It will help the case shed water and keep it away from the areas were water can enter.

I would take the CA apart (*I might be doing this soon as I'm getting ideas as I type) and spray the inside of the "case" as well as the circuit board and connectors. This isn't to allow submersion, but to keep any water that might enter from making "traces" (that can lead to shorts). I would also spray the outside of the case. Then reassemble with RTV on the seams.

On the face (LCD) and bezel, I would take a 2 part clear epoxy (like the stuff for bar tops; only need some scrap amount) and coat the face, overlapping the front seam. This will make it scratch resistent and will actually help REMOVE scratches in marred plastic by filling in the depressions. I did this with my multimeter when it was getting nearly impossible to see all the numbers and it remains crystal clear over 6 months later.

I would also think about making a tiny weep hole at the bottom of the CA case so that any water that gets in will ball up and drop right out (since we coated the internals).
