I've ordered one of these ebike frames from em3ev which is on it's way, so I thought I would start a build thread.

I think there's a few of us now waiting on the frames to arrive.

Roadrash built up this frame already which he got from a different supplier:

I have most of the parts I need already which I'll take off other bikes I have.

The bottom bracket is a square taper 100mm BC63 VP Components.
According to this site:

It says the bottom bracket is HollowTech compatible. I would prefer to use a Hollow Tech BB but I can't find any that are 100mm.

Any one know where I can get this??

For the motor, I'm initially going to use my Mac 8T at 40A. I might go DD later on.

I don't actually need to go any faster than the 8T takes me to be honest.

I'm not sure what battery I'm going to use just yet. I'll probably stick with 12S lipo to begin with for ease of charging.

I've always wanted to just plug in a 'kettle' lead power supply for supreme ease of use, so I might go for a Meanwell charger and bulk charge the LiPo.
Paul at Em3ev is going to be building a pack specific for this frame so I might wait and see what he comes up with.

Also very interested in Paul's prototype double mac motor. Very interested to learn more about that:

Looking forward to your build. I've been thinking about this frame too since seeing Roadrash build. My only concern is standover height for the frame. I'm fairly short guy. Waiting to see what Paul comes up with battery and as a packaged system too.

Started putting together the frame this evening.

There is one bolt missing, an M8. Not the end of the world I suppose just a little bit annoying.

First thing was to attach the swing arm. The two attachment arms on the swing arm were about 3 or 4mm too small so out came the rubber mallet allowing me to whack it into place.

Next I attached the rear shock. The top mount slid in fine but the bottom was super tight.



I ended up using an 8mm drill bit and turning it by hand to remove some paint. I was then able to force it through.

Installing the semi-integrated headset was also a bit of a pain. I have a headset press but the bottom cup is huge and the cup inserts on my press were not big enough to fit.

Getting the Chris king crown race off my marzocchi 55's was a PITA. Think I need to get a removal tool for future use.

One thing I do find slightly odd is that the battery compartment isn't actually completely enclosed, seems a shame really.

This area can be covered pretty easily though.

Maybe it was left open for mid-drive?

I attached a shimano triple ring crankset but the inner ring fouled on the swing arm pivot bolt so I had to remove it.



My next big problem is that this frame is obviously designed for large DD hub motors so putting in the relatively small Mac motor means spacing issues occur.



I can either place the freewheel towards the drive side to have a decent chain line, but that then leaves a huge gap between the disc brake mount and the rotor.

If I centre the wheel then the chain line is out and there's a big gap to the disc brake mount.

What I'll try next is a longer freewheel on one side, ordered a 10sp freewheel from em3ev. On the other side I'll add loads of rotor spacers, thereby effectively making the motor wider.

I tried to remove the 7sp freewheel from the Mac motor but I found my freewheel remover tool would not fit over the M14 axle. Had to order one that will fit once again from em3ev.

I have to wait for some parts now.

According the spec I think the frame support 135-155 dropout. Do you have the torque plate installed on the inside of the frame to get the dropout at 135?

Yes you can move the torque plates from the outside to the inside which will reduce the dropout width, however, this makes no difference to the issue that a thinner motor means the chain line isn't great and disk brake mount needs spacing.

The picture shows a 7 speed dnp freewheel. I'm pretty sure the 10 speed freewheel I've ordered will close the gap to the dropout which will improve the chain line.

isnt it just 3mm wider but the cogs are closer together? or is there room to pop the largest crank sprocket in the middle mount. I never use the smaller cogs on mine unless iv run out of juice or blown it up.

I wonder how much you could shave off that swing arm pivot bolt. You could even get a slimmer nut as well.
