Land Rover 26" Folding Bike with FS

This bike has the actual Land Rover emblems on it.



Would this bike be good for a guy who weighs 300lbs who would be doing casual riding?

chinese will steal the brand names from anything if they think it will attract customers ...

It looks like a good candidate for a mid drive conversion. Like my Montague, that frame would allow the motor to tuck up real high and out of the way.

No folding bike I have ever seen could be described as a good choice for a 300 pounder. Some of them (e.g. Swift Folder, Ritchey Breakaway) would survive; many would not. Bikes with a sideways folding hinge in the middle like the one in the picture start out crappy and go downhill fast (figuratively, not literally). A good sign of better than normal integrity is if the folding mechanism uses the seatpost as a fixing pin.

Also, to the nearest approximation, any bicycle named after a car is a horrendous piece of crap. I think BMW and Porsche both made gimmicky, overengineered but decent quality (and very expensive, and rare) bikes in the past. Other bikes branded as cars (Jeep, GMC, Hummer, Cadillac, etc.) have been super nasty BSOs (bicycle-shaped objects) akin to the other "bikes" at your local big box department store.

I think you would have more problems than you thing getting a crank drive on there... the metal rest for when the bike is folded sticks straight out the bottom, and the bracket for the shock blocks he BB shell higher up. Its really tight clearance between the motor and the BB spindle on the BB series.

Most of the good center hinge folders rate the bike at 200-220 pounds. That's not what I would call one of the good ones.

OK That bike is scrapped, it caught my eye because I thought it was a Montague and their Hummer bike fooled me longer. Look at the hinge and the tubing its totally different.

Im thinking just building my own frocking heavy "folder" bike, but I am thinking telescopic tubing sandwiching the frames top bar and angled down tube. I just need a welder now, I got some projects around the house that needs a welder.

Chalo - What are your thoughts on the Montague folders, they still fold sideways.

Get the 99 buck wire feed welder from Harbor Freight, if you want to get into welding on the cheap. So easy I could learn to use it.

Why exactly a folder? Going on a train?

I would think if you can find a steel folding frame, it would be strong enough for 300 pounds. Wheels can be upgraded.

No commuter trains really in Western Canada, just VIA Rail which is expensive and for tourists that want to see the mountains. I want one for the Greyhound or Plane. Greyhound charges extra for bicycles, and they need to be in a box. But my 26" "folder" will need to fit inside a big ass luggage roller which junk ones can be found quite commonly in high density urban area's. I call it a folder, but it wont fold, it will bolt together. I found a few cheap 120V welders on the classifieds, $50 to $150.

Keeping the bike tubes intact, but do one cut on each tube and using telescoping tubing with some grade 8 bolts, or if they are not snug against the bikes tubing, then perhaps a more conventional method like removing the bikes tubes and using box tubing and sandwich plates with threaded holes. This all will require careful eye's on keeping everything still aligned. With the last method I would probably keep the bikes tubes in place then weld in steel to a final design then remove the bikes tubing. The donor is an old Specialzed Stumpjumper made of ChroMo steel.
