LCD Not working - KM529 replaced by S866

Hi, I have an ebike that runs great.

The LCD is damaged. It is a KM529. It still functions - buttons work, but the display is not operational. It's not the end of the world, but can't see useful information.

I bought an S866 thinking it would be a straight swap.

I am getting E10 code.
I read what that might mean, and looked to see if I could change P20. However, my S866 doesn't have any settings above P17.

Does this mean S866 doesn't work with my controller? Is P20 hidden somehow?

System is 500W 48v.

Unfortunately, displays aren't universally compatible with controllers. Even when a different display does work, it may not have the same menus or settings, and so it may not be able to change all the same controller settings. Even if it has the same menus/etc., it may not send the data the same way, so the controller may not understand it or accept it, or it may change a different thing in the controller or set it to a different thing than the same setting from the original display, etc.

Regarding the E10 code, I would guess that it is something the controller is trying to send to it that it does not understand, or something it's asking the controller that doesn't get a response (because the controller doesn't understand it) or gets the wrong response (for similar reason), and whatever related settings there should be may not exist in one or the other device.

I had an S866 display and it only worked with Brainpower controllers, I don't see the dreaded Brainpower on your controller label.

Some of these displays are sold with different firmware versions to different re-sellers, and the settings for one guy don't apply to the other guy.

The other curious thing about LCD displays is that they all seem to use the same connector, even if they use different controllers. All they will do with a foreign controller is power it up. Many controllers have a default PAS and active throttle when booted up, so this makes many users think the LCD is working, but it isn't, Getting a comm error shows it isn't.

Though they may not use the same pin order, with the possibility of damage to both display and controller if they stick a battery voltage wire where a data line is on the other device. :(

Agree AW. I should have said they often use the same connector with the same pinout. The displays that I've had do this.

My Bafang middrive display uses a different pinout, and they also flip the gender on the connector, so I can't plug in those other displays.
