Hey guys I was wondering if I could get some technical know how and opinions on this: I am trying to get a very high discharge and high amp bms from a supplier on Alibaba, it’s to be 53ah 72v with 250amp peak. Would a lifepo4 battery actually be able to supply those kinds of power, and is there any advantage to them of a lithium ion battery?

Any and all help is much appreciated.

It will depend on the particular LiFePO4 cells you are looking at. Something like a 20Ahr A123 pouch cell can deliver around 200A. The larger the capacity, the more amps you will be able to pull from it. Some less expensive makes of cells may have lower limits. The seller should provide the maximum discharge current spec. If they can't tell you, I would be wary.

In general, LiFePO4 cells have longer cycle life and are less prone to catching on fire, but are somewhat larger and heavier for the same energy compared to Li-ion.
