I have been searching around at costs of lifePO4 batteries and found these prices

$us472 36V 15AH + $us85 5A charger http://www.goldenmotor.com
$au350 24V 10AH including charger Solarbbq

on this web site there is some customer reviews as well but only up to end 2006 there are also two pictures showing different dimensions 61mm wide and 105mm wide not sure if there is another battery he intends on selling at a later stage

$875 36V 20AH including charger Falcon EV
£uk470 37V 15AH would imagine this is the same as golden motors pack team hybrid

So IMHO the best deal is probably the first one on the list has anyone here tried this pack and if you know of any cheaper packs please post well heck why not just post any prices that are reasonable

Batteryspace's LiPO4 cells. ~$4 USD per AH versus ~$5.50 per AH for a123s. But 10C discharge rate versus 30C for a123s, quite a bit heavier, and I haven't seen any reviews yet.

I heard over on goldenmotor's forum they are currently unable to ship that battery. Apparently they ran into a supply issue or a technical issue. Goldenmotor isn't known for their customer responsiveness, although they claim to be setting something up for a few months from now that intends to improve that.

I don't have any personal experience with goldenmotor, but lurk and post (too much) on their discussion forum.

Those Lithium on Solarbbq are Cobalt. Brett got lied to by the supplier.

Any idea who the supplier who lied is?

So, taking a deep breath of lithium iron vapor:

Rumored unavailable.

LiCo (Lithium Cobalt), not LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate).

$875 36V 20AH including charger Falcon EV
Probably real LiFePO4. Availability unknown. Cells and pack look the same as the goldenmotor pack. FalconEV delivered a similar LiMn pack to Ypedal recently.

The Team Hybrid pack is a well-received lithium cobalt pack used by Knoxie and others.

I think you can get Thundersky lithium phosphate from Thunderstruck EV or Electric motorsport. Not sure of the price.

With a bit of luck they'll be pretty cheap in years to come, seems like the ultimate battery for anything that needs a high discharge rate and/or a long life.

Here's what I bought from FalconEV. They had the best "C" rate. You really have to watch what some other firms are offering Li Po4 with 2C continous rates.

From previous post:
"Well, finally made a decision. Ordering from Andy at FalconEV.

The Liberty Bike 36 V 10 ah packs listed at $ 420 + $ 45 charger + $95 shipping = $ 515. Tech info only had discharge at 2C.

Andy: $ 550 includes charger, $ 40 mailing USPS = $ 590 total
Tech info discharge 3C "

Maybe after Andy comes back from China he can deliver packs quicker..

That happened in the past. He's confirmed his cells he is selling is LiPo4. Samples will be arriving next week for him to double check. Once i get full stats on cell weights I'll be able to make a decision as to which pack to go 4 :)

I saw this supplier and gave him a call.
He quoted me $312 for pack and $50 for 10amp charger + shipping
This was for a 36 volt 10ah pack.
He also said that the 10ah LiFePO4 pack would be around the equivalent of a 20ah SLA pack.
Warranty 3 years, expected to last 7 years.

What do you guys think? Check out his site. It has the same text like it was copied from the goldenmotor website.

This week, despite my earlier comments of discontent, I contact Andy at Falcon EV and Kurt at Iloveebikes re LiPO4. I was prepared to spend up to $1,200 without complaint for a 48 volt 20 AH battery pack. Andy and Kurt were both as polite as polite can be and both were quite willing to take my money (deposit) though I don't think my $1,200 was going to be enough. Neither one has any batteries! They are going to get some.

Other online vendors I've found are all in China and I ain't sending money to China or Nigeria without a product in an American or Canadian hand. Still other suppliers who offer "similar" products such as NiMH or NiCD fail to respond to email requests.

Andy didn't have either NiMH or Lithium Mn in stock, everything wants a deposit and a long lead time.

IMHO the vendor who actually has a product and can accommodate a customer by answering the telephone or email and gets a reputation for honesty will have great potential for success and wealth. In the meantime we, the potential customer, will fill up forums with frustration and leads to the next Chinese guy who may or not have product and who may or may not respond to an email as most of aren't going to call China on the telephone.

I nominate Xyster to quit his job and go into the battery business. He is already on the west coast and close to China. At least he is closer than I am. Plus he knows a lot about batteries and duct tape, two valuable ebike necessities.

 Yah, I'm so close I could almost pedal across. Xyster The Wise thinks you should build your own pack with either emoli's from Milwaukee V28 packs, or A123's from Dewalt packs. Take a look at Maytag's emoli pack build thread if you haven't already. The prices on ebay are pretty reasonable last I checked -- around $10/cell.

This neatly sums up my experience with the electric bike industry.

One LAST comment re this thread. Probably last comment.

I went through my list of previously visited web sites and found PowerStream. They are in Utah and advertise lots of batteries and "friendly engineers" to help you choose which chemistry and layout is best suited for you.

So, I called Utah. They answered the phone and transferred me promptly to a "friendly engineer". He certainly appeared knowledgeable and had no problem stating the way to go was LiPO4 but that the manufacturers were not putting out reliable products and it would be best to wait a year for R&D. He made no attempt to sell me anything stating the other chemistries didn't rightfully compare. (my words not his)

So I shall take Xysters advice and research the potential of building my own. Hopefully he has gotten his passport in the meantime and is fixing to go to China to become the worlds largest and best supplier or better yet will start building them on the west coast. That way he will have an American product with Chinese research which will be a worlds first. He can sell them to everyone on this forum and extend into the world. In just a few years Bill Gates will call on him to borrow money and he'll be having lunch with Rupert Murdoch. Probably.

Hmmm, nice ideas but wrong incentives. Hob-nobbing with the rich and famous doesn't even make my list of priorities; world's lender of last resort -- I'd have to really think about that. I have seriously considered getting into the battery biz part-time though...:)

I look forward to hearing about your pack progress, mvadv. For that $1200 you could build yourself an awesome, 100-cell pack of emoli's or A123s. I'm already planning my 5p24s emoli pack for when it's time to replace my lithium cobalt cells. Since I already have 20 single-cell chargers that'll work fine with the emoli's, I'm inclined to skip the BMS again, extracting the individual cells from V28 packs by cutting the pre-welded tabs, then folding the tabs over 12 gauge wire, crimping and soldering and stringing them all together.

I'm in Korea which is near China (Beijing), but really one would have to be a dealer for it to be worthwhile.

Then I couldn't use the APO mail (Army Post Office) for business puposes. If I used Korean mail, I'd have to import from China to Korea, (pay duties?) then Korea to the US.

If I get my motor, controller and batteries (1st set) and get all this working, I might try later ordering Li FE Po4 batteries directly from China. Then I could tell others about my specific experience with a China firm.

I'm real new at this... :?

And furthermore - golden motor's LiPo4 36 V battery states 15 A continuous discharge for a 15aH battery. That's only 1C.

Andy's battery specs at FalconEV were 3C. He might have gotten the batteries in, he wrote about 2 days ago and said my order would be about 3 weeks now (instead of 2 months). We'll see.
