LiPoly powered 18HP Twin Motor Brushless MONSTER build!

Yes you are right my bad, either or either look the business though... My mate sold his XA about 10 years back got 45k for it put a large deposit on his house BUT he still regrets it to this day...They are worth a bucket load now the father of my son has a original XW GTHO Phase 2
in the 90's he was still using it as a DAILY DRIVER! hes loaded has a shed full of vintage cars. /ot rant

Come on LUKE UPDATE!!! Get ya but out of that ricer and get some runs on the biiiiicyle buddy

KiM

Luke is afraid to update because his weak-sauce bike only goes like 30mph (down hill in a full tuck with the tires a 65psi)
Even my wife's bike goes 48mph

Take that piece of ish to the track and get a trap speed.
I dont care about the 1/4 time, just the peak speed.

I have been looking around for one of those radar boxes that will read over 45mph
All the boxes in my town flash SLOW DOWN! after 45mph

ROFLMAO ...has a 50mph tail wind too right? as he slips streams a bus HAHAHA you are such shit stirrers! Any newbie to the forum would think you hated one another... frock i would love to have a few beers with your two, would be piss funny watching you continually take the piss as you try to out do each other hehehee too funny...How are your rides going Patrick havent heard anything of late..Congrats on the marriage i saw the video of you hauling your 'prize' off to the workbench (Hotel Bed) behind your e-bike...only you Methy only you would use your e-bike at your wedding you must have one of the most understanding ladies.

KiM

P.S...Methy!!!! check my new thread link in sig i have another custom build on the go, pending full GangSTA status to mate can SOON lose the 'Apprentice" tag :p DONT FRET...NO parallel/series charging with a PSU for me..sticking to what i know I will get me another Hyperion charger (what i used on my heli lipos) and charge them in parallel ;)

WHOA not me i didnt say nothing Luke :: ducks..and points feverishly in Methods direction:: <---it was all Methy Luke Honest, i think he said something about getting a run in your stockings, your frock caught in the chain and your handbag cuaght up in the spokes... last time you road your bike too:: nods::...was something along those lines ...LMFAO..

Thats two funny I found one on my bmx one day and made 35km/h peddling on flat ground.
And another time I found one and wanted to see if it read past 99 and it just said ":" I wont say what was used to get over 100

Whew, that was a long read!! (wouldn't have been without the hijackers, lol :D ) Luke congrats on such an awesome build, it's very inspirational! You and Methy are too funny with the brotherly bantering, lmao. What ever came of this project, just waiting for a good sensorless speed controller, or big motor with sensors? I would pay money for a vid!

Is this maybe a good speed control for some motors like this? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10332 , supposedly 200a cont.

Hey Luke,
How do you isolate your pedal-drive chain on this machine at the moment - it looks like the #35 is mounted on the freehub as well as the cassette???

Or do you just ride with your legs hanging out the sides while the pedals spin at a couple of hundred rpm :D :D :D

In the last photo, notice the clever "W" at the end of the -130 :)

Yes, officer, get your RCW code book out. I have two 130w motors, I am definately well below the 350w limit. I just have very strong legs.

Just looked back through this thread too see how Luke had done the manual drivetrain, only way
i can see it possible for the pedals NOT to be spiining is if he a) removes the chain from rear sprocket when riding or b) he has a freewheel crank ...which would see the manual chain spining at some high rpms wouldnt want my leg near it LoL

Is this ride still operational Luke? or have you stripped it down for the 're-fit' Last i remember you had 8in flames shooting out the Turnigy ESC? those 200amp Turnigys would be the ticket Luke, but i also recall you mentioning you want hall sensor setup too? your not entirely happy with the RC ESC setups?

I'm speeeewing i ripped the stickers off my Turnigy now, i never thought of the 'W' idea VERY clever hehee...i SHOULD OF
erased the 130 entirely and done the 'W' behind the '100' to come in on the 200w OZ MAX limit hehehe... oh well..more PhotChop stickers to be made, i do have a vinyl cutting plotter now so i can make some pro looking stickers at least lol

I think Luke is using tabs/hooks to hold the chain off the cassette, and put the chain back on to pedal when needed.

Yep, it's crude. I use some zip-ties to keep the chain entirely off the front and rear sprockets. I have a little razor blade taped on the bottom of the battery pack, so in the event that I have controller failure (or whatever) then I can cut the zipties and pedal it back home.

It's a pretty crude method. It was mostly just something I fudged together so I could see what an electric bike would feel like with this sort of power. The new system will be using a pair of independent ENO freewheels on a 3-speed dual-drive SRAM hub. This will provide total drive system isolation between the pedals and the motor, and it will also enable me to have gearing to improve acceleration and top speed performance. :)

I just read this entire thread as well, it was a shame to see all the fabrication and effort, come to a

screeching halt due to lack of a decent sensorless brushless controller, that suited his needs..... hopefully that will change soon :)

All the money, fabrication, and blood :) that has gone into this project, and it comes down to a damn circuit board....

Well, awesome job on the fabrication portion, looking forward to the outcome....

Yeh We need luke to finish this project and make us a video!

Not likely he has it up for sale :-(

KiM
Why is it on the HobbyKing web sight!

LoL.. Shouldnt even be called HobbyKing IMHO should be called "Lukes Place" or something similar
hes spent enough there to own the joint ... I believe hes asking 2k without batteries 3k with..i forget the thread he
mentioned it in now. He wants to put the $$ towards his 100mph e-bike for memory, that will be
some bike. I hope you plan on full piece leathers when riding fast on that one Luke you crazy
frocker hahaha HELL the e-bike will launch harder than your Civic race car mate hehehe

Where's the bike now and the video? I don't think I've ever seen a video of this gearing-limited 60 mph bike.

Yep, nothing but the sound of silence. I've got a feeling it's soon to emerge at 100v. 100v at conservatively 150a peaks for each motor is a mere 40hp. Luke had to go very conservative on the throttle before, just to keep the front wheel on the ground. I'm guessing 100mph gearing, and even then the front wheel probably won't want to stay down. Whatever emerges from the silence is sure to set the bar way out there for everyone chasing e-bike speed.

aye, im hoping Lukes bike is just a sleeping giant that will rise this season and whoop some ass

D

I hope he sinks as much money into this next bike as he does on the street rockets, or maybe he IS pouring all his money into an Electric street rocket, Lotus 7 anyone?

A video would prolly help sell it better too, so c'mon Luke make us a vid!!!

I do need to take some video. I've not even thrown a leg over it for a month or more.

Its the cold rainy season. I drive cars in winter. Lol

I also all ready want to mount a pair of those 12kw brushless motors onto it to boost performance. :)

The tax-man gave it to me proper, dry, and deep this year, to the tune of 5-digits... cash comes in quick, but the next few batches are going towards catching up on bills rsther than EV stuff. :(
