Hello everyone, I just joined here and hope I’m posting this correctly. Right now I have an ancheer
Amak00008 . I’m on SSI and with my COPD I need a bike to get around. I may have some side work coming up and I desperately want to upgrade, I’m not really concerned with speed, I most interested in getting more mileage per charge. I live very close to the recent tragic e-bike deaths involving teens here in Jersey so I’m concerned with what laws they may pass as far as having a lisense and insurance and registration. I’m on limited money ( who ain’t)
Ancheer is like bottom line and I have almost 3000 miles on mine in just over a year, motor replaced once already , so I’m not sure if for now I sould just buy spare battery for like $250 or do what I want and get one for between $600- $1000 when I save up. But I don’t want to get lisense.I’m not much into speed , mine goes 21 mph but got to 29 downhill . I wouldn’t mind 35 or so on straight away but I get nervous , I’m half blind by the way. I’m looking at all the vids on YouTube and super73,Sutton, tutti all seem to be good but probably out of my price range
Have you guys ever heard of “ deep power” ( seen on Temu) or aymet or those other names you see on Amazon and Temu and such.
Do you think there worth it, the Temu deep power one I like has dual battery’s and that just under a 1000 but I could just get the single for 6 something and buy extra battery when I can.
What are some of your guys thoughts?🤔
Sorry to bend your ear so much but it’s nice to be able to chat and ask people that know about this stuff thank yoi

If I were you, I would consider a 48V, 1000w rear hub kit (about $250 @YESCOM) and a battery (ask here; I've used Bicycle Motor works, but there are better options). Individuals have reported 25K miles with this kit. Your bike isn't the best around, but it should suffice. If there's something you don't like about it, find a 90's or so used MTB for $100 or so.

Consider upgrading your current bike. If you want more range, then a bigger battery or an extra battery is the ticket. Have a second battery to connect for the return trip.

I have a 2014 specialized rockhopper that I’m about to throw away . You mean I can buy stuff to convert that to an e-bike?? That would be awsome!!

That’s what I’m thinking to , like I said. Get second battery, though I really do want to up grade but don’t want to pay a grand for a bike then need to pay for insurance and stuff. I on SSI and after rent got $198 per month

That Specialized Rockhopper is probably worth a few hundred bucks used. Yes, if you have some mechanical aptitude and know a little electricity, you could probably install a motor and battery onto it.

The trick is getting a safe battery w/o paying a thousand bucks for it,

If you're half blind you sure don't want speed when on two wheels.
Could you put your motor wheel on the rock hopper? Might make a better ebike.

Thank you guys very very much!!! I just google conversion kits and they run only around 250 for a decent one which I would want!! I’m just trying to figure out about do I buy battery separate or does it come with some kits and how to install it. I know tools for construction , I was a demo guy mostly, but I’m certainly no macanic . But I not stuipd and I’m sober ( now) so if it not to difficult I would try, like would I need to buy and learn to use a tap/ die kit?? If it seemed even a little to much for me I’d rather just pay someone to do it. I may even find someone here. I hopping to meet folks in my area anyway. So I will look into the sites you mentioned above. Do you guys think I sould think about alibaba and Temu an Amazon for hits, or stick with the specific bike links stores for better quality a service. Again thank you very much and Mr rockhopper will NOT be thrown out now!! See that guys you just saved a bike from the scrap yard 😎

Yes, I’m more interested in going further than speed. I gonna look into putting motor on rockhopper. Gotta figure out how far I can go on charge like that 🙂😎 thank you

What happened to the original motor that required it to be changed, and did you swap it out yourself, or was it somehow covered under warranty?
Zooming in on your avatar, and looking at a couple versions of the bike online, it appears that you have the model with the controller built into the battery cradle. Is that the case, and if so, could you provide a pic of the cradle and pins with the battery removed?
On a limited budget, and with a goal of more range, I'd spend your money on a decent quality battery with a larger capacity. Don't go for more speed, since a crash at over 20 can result in injuries that could take months or even years to recover from, unless you're young and in your twenties. I don't understand the extra battery solution. Are you planning on carrying the extra battery on your rides? A single, larger capacity battery, is probably the best upgrade in your situation, especially if the bike does what you want already, except for greater range.
If the reason for the motor replacement were more clear, then I might have a different opinion, or possibly suggestions on how to avoid a problems with the current motor if it died from abuse.

No, the kits are usually bolt-on. Requires common bicycle tools and knowledge and experience how to use them.
I may even find someone here. I hopping to meet folks in my area anyway.
That is a great idea, find some local experienced ebike conversion helpers.

My experiences with Alibaba and Temu have been mixed, Temu being worse. Items not as advertised.

Oh no, the bike I’m referring to is not the Ancheer in my avatar. That’s what I ride now. But I can only get around 19-20 mile range and to hard to ride with no electric, much worse then a regular bike. The kit I’m getting interested in that you guys mentioned is for a rockhopper I got for free from Craig’s list . I was gonna throw that away and I wanted to upgrade my e-bike so I can go a lot further . I’d love 80-100 miles , I was looking at a duel battery “ ride star” on Temu, that’s why I asked about them here. Get options on them. A lot of tragedy’s happened in my area lately, at least 3 teens dead one in serious conduction in e-bike crashes last two weeks alone so everyone all crazy making laws and stuff so I want to see what they make need a lisense insurance etc.. before I buy a bigger class bike. Then you guys brought up conversion kits do I looking for more info on that 🙂
And I was born 1970 , so not really a teen anymore 🤭 🤣🤣🤣

How can you figure out the range you get on the conversion kits? I’ll look around but if any of you know of some threads allready hear can you let me know? Thanks I don’t want to flood bourd with same question over and over ya know

What is your actual budget? From your description, it sounded like just enough for a good battery.

I had my last motorcycle accident at 70mph when I was a couple of years younger than you. Dislocated both shoulders and got pretty banged up, but I was functional a week later, except for the physical therapy. My ebike crash last year, at a third that speed, took me about 7 months to get back on the bike, and a collar bone that will never heal. Maybe you're still a fast healer, but each year turns into slower healing.

I still advise upgrading the battery on your existing bike, unless your budget allows for a kit, plus a good battery.

If you know the details of the motor and controller, you can model it in the Grin simulator:

Oh E-HP now I see what you’re asking about motor on my Ancheer . I was riding no prob . Went into a store and when I came out all I got was this grinding sound so whole motor was shot. Actually very common on this cheap bikes , the gears are all plastic. And I ordered it through my sisters account on Amazon so I had to wait for her to find order # so I just got new motor in end of July. When that was down that’s when I got the free specialized rockhoper but I can’t ride that it to hard when I can’t breath

This is why you need to put your investment toward a good battery. If you can't pedal, your battery is doing all of the work.

What type of terrain are you riding on? If you ride a lot of hills, and the motor heats up, the plastic gears will too and weaken. If that's the case, and you actually need a new motor or kit, then you need to provide the details of what you expect from it. This sticky is old, but the main questions to answer are up front in the second paragraph. Answering those would help folks here provide better guidance.

Well basic hilly commute I ride on , I do like trails but not the super rocky ones. So I looking to either buy new strong bike or try a conversion kit with very strong battery. I gonna make a post here about what is the best kit and battery to buy. I have doc appts. This mounth but I’m hoping to get side work in nov cause I want at least $1000 to spend. I only want to buy the best . Not concerned with cheap stuff , don’t think it makes sense to buy cheap stuff like tools or bikes. So I wait till nov when I have the bucks and then post so I don’t lose track. Lots of great info in this thread already.😎👍
As far as what questions to ask in what you posted I don’t understand what you’re asking?? Where I’m from and stuff is in my profile. Let me know if I leavening out anything, ok buddy and thanks agsin

I don't understand the extra battery solution. Are you planning on carrying the extra battery on your rides?

He seems to have a functional lower capacity battery. My thought is that, being short on cash, a second charged battery might double his range. Of course, a new double capacity battery is the more elegant solution, but would be more expensive.

My guess is it's probably a controller or battery problem.
Problem batteries, yeah, perhaps people around here could use some I have for the cells or something, The BMSes are good too.
I messed up and didn't make sure they were suspended good, and they arced against the frame. Both of them have cell damage and only 1/2 capacity. Oh, they were good, too. Liitokala, and I can't get any more like them. :(
They're smaller and lighter and did have real capacity.

So you answered the last two. What don’t you understand about the rest?

“To get solid advice on parts to buy, you must provide the following info.
Desired max speed on level ground. mph or kph
Desired max range at what cruising speed. mph or kph
Preferred bike wheel size, or wheel size of bike you want to convert. Most common kits are for 26" wheels.
Brake type of motor wheel. Disc or not.
Rider weight.
Terrain. Exp: mostly flat, some short hills under 20% grade, I want to climb mountains, etc., etc.
Budget.”

Oh! I know exactly what that's like.
That little jumpy jumpy screwed the batteries but good!
Turned 2 20Ah batteries into half that pretty quick.
Next time I wrap them in inner tube. ;)
But I don't see any batteries that good around now at all. :(
I even tried to fix the 60-volter. It's got bad cell or 2. Same problem, half range.
I bought a compatible BMS that worked but had to be flipped.
50A BMS. Yeah, the seller gave me a full refund on it already, and said "It probably just needs a new BMS".
So I got one and it worked..not 20 Ah worth, more like 10.
67v battery, gets to 59v and takes a dump.
42v battery, gets to 35 and done.
Where can I get a good, light 72v 50A 20Ah battery that will fit into a small triangle?
