looking for the above mentioned nut. there seems to be a shortage of them, just wondering why?

i can find m12 and m16 flanged nyloc nuts at a reasonable price in abundance.... but the only available m14 varieties are titanium and expensive.

what makes matters worse is the nlyoc portion takes up valuable metal thread space, i have seen a "expensive titanium" style that puts the nylon part in an extra section of metal on the end of the nut so you get full metal threads in adition to the nyloc part, but not in an m14 size :(

im just wondering if anyone can shed some light onto this shortage?

where are all the m14 flanged nlyoc nuts going?

thanks, had a look, they dont do m14 flanged nylocs in the right thread pitch, has to be 1.5mm, theirs are 2mm

ive noticed a lot of their listings also skip the m14 size.....they stock m12 and m16, but not m14

Nyloc nuts aren’t that great for locking on long term since the nylon eventually gets threads pressed in them and loose grip. if you have trouble sourcing nylocs then I’d either use loctite or a prevailing torque nut with the locking through metal clamping (there are several variants that have elliptical clamping in the nut itself

McMaster-Carr is the best easiest to search web site on all of the internet. Also, I order something at night, and with some type of miracle it's on my porch the next morning. Quick...... Marty wants something. Go find it and drive From OH or NJ to NY 500 miles or so. UPS Ground faster then a airplane?

From home page click [nuts] Yes I am nuts.

System of Measurement [Metric]

Thread Size [M14]

Thread Pitch [1.5 mm]

Nut Type [Locknut]

Locking Type [Nylon-Insert]

High-Strength Nylon-Insert Flange Locknut
Zinc Plated Class 10 Steel, M14 x 1.5 mm Thread, DIN 6926

$8 EACH! :oop:+ Shipping. I have a account so they in such a hurry to ship, they email bill after shipping and hope I pay. Good thing I have good credit and usually pay for stuff.

There are 6 different M14 x 1.5 mm, Nylon-Insert, nuts to choose from. The one above is the only one with a flange. I like nuts with a flange. Might be phase I am going through?

Nylock nuts don't help on hub motors. Not only does the interrupted thread of the flatted axle cut the nylon ring deeper and faster than a full thread, but any retention you get from nylon is irrelevant to the forces we're using axle nuts to resist.

Nylock nuts keep parts from coming apart when the nut loosens. That's all. But our hub motors make bad things happen long before that point. The amount of torque/clamping we require is orders of magnitude higher than what the nylon ring is able to provide. By the time it starts doing what it can do, your dropout/torque arm/hub axle is already ruined.

TL;DR:
Just use flanged nuts without the nylock feature and be sure to get them tight enough. Nylock doesn't help with what you need.

P.S. -
Nordlock also does nothing to assure the nuts are adequately tight. If they're tight enough, Nordlock washers won't do anything, and if the nuts aren't tight enough, Nordlock washers won't prevent the axle from rotating and trashing your bike.
