Mac 8t kit help please

Hi guys, hope someone can help, im sooooo frustrated!
Long story short, ive built a prototype DS frame and im planning on selling them through my local bike shop once they have been tested. Ive installed a new Cellman 8t kit, all wired correctly but have a problem.
The controller seems like it is in some sort of soft start mode.
Im running 14s lipo so its definatley not a lvc issue, ive tried it without the CA plugged in and its still the same.
I have got the usb lead for programming but have no idea how to get it working, ie drivers/ programmes, power on to the controller or not? The lack of instructions with the kit as a whole doesnt bother me too much, but for for newbies must be really off putting.
The motor pulls really slow on take off, drawing around 250-300w and slowly climbing with speed to a max of 1000w.
It should draw a peak of around 2000w running on 14s at 40 amps.
Any input would be great as Pauls emails are taking on avg 3-4 days per reply! But at least it is a reply unlike other vendors i have dealt with.

Hi Dave,

Have you checked the hall sensor connections in the plastic connector between the motor and the controller? On my kit they came loose and needed to be connected well otherwise the motor would not run well at all.

Forgive me for saying a bit on your plans but you are planning on selling a bike fitted with a Mac 8T through a local bike shop?

As you are aware we have silly restrictions on power levels here in Europe. The average person in the street will buy a 250w bike and be done with it but that is because it is easy and that is all that is avaialble. But if a Mac 8T is available then maybe they will opt for that.

Most people that have a high powered bike will be interest in the hobby and build it themselves and would be generally responsible. When the day arrives that someone can just simply buy and high powered bike from the LBS is the day it is over for all of us. The authorities by and large turn a blind eye to the few nutcases that build bike

A: Through high powered bikes not being common knowledge
B: Because there are so few

All it takes is increasing numbers of irresponsible riders or dare i say it christmas presents for rich kids and that is it. Game Over

The authorities will come down hard and the will be big penalties.

I think the plan to commercially sell these bikes is really not a good idea. By all accounts sell 250W bikes but a Mac 8T to a unsuspecting bike

Have you got the 3 speed switch connected?
Without it plugged in, the controller defaults to speed 2.
Speed 1 and speed 2 have desensitized throttle inputs for better throttle control, but take-off is slower.
Speed 3 will unleash the controller at its programmed max.
I had this problem with my 10T, as I originally didn't connect the 3 speed switch.
I still haven't got the switch connected, but have shorted out the corresponding connector block contacts to force the controller to run speed 3.
BTW, I think Paul has programmed his controllers to provide longevity to the motors, so I wouldn't expect smoking tyres :lol:

Thanks for both replies so far.
The 3 speed is operating correctly, and it is definatly in position 3.
Hall cables have a good tight connection, and the motor runs smooth with no hesitation. Paul has now sent the software for the controller so when i get home from work tonight im going to have a look at the settings. Fingers crossed!
As regards to selling my bikes i did say it was a long story and ive got time to explain now.
Ive so far built 2 custom Specialized Big Hits and if you search my previous posts you can find the build threads.
My local bike sop owner is a good friend of mine, and he's been bugging the hell out of me to build some bikes for himself and 7 of our off road riding buddies. We are all over 30 and obviously responsible enough to know that ebikes like mine need to be kept on the downlow. But we all ride together and want some fun for our local secluded trails. We are selling them through his shop to our mates to make life simpler, they will not be sold to rich kids!
On a normal meet up for off road riding there is nearly 20 of us now, and ive got a feeling all of them will want one. I know the limitations of the mac motor, and i think it will suit us all best.
Just hoping this is an isolated problem before i shell out my own cash on 15 kits in one go.

Hopefully it's nothing that a bit of tweaking on the software side won't sort out.
As I say, I believe Paul has erred on the side of caution, to protect the gears and motor for long life.
This does mean it is fairly slow on take-off, but should pull like a train once above 10mph.
I love the smoothness of operation, and wouldn't swop this for the twitchiness of a poorly matched set-up.
Thumbs up to Paul for putting together such a good kit

Just for grins, you might try bypassing the 3 speed switch, or just confirming that it's working properly. Maybe you have it in 3, but don't connect and get default 2.
