OK, so many of us already know what a great light the MagicShine is, yes? However, to date, the thing that isn't so great about it is the way it mounts to the handle bars. That black rubber O-ring just isn't the greatest thing to instill confidence that the light is mounted securely.

I ran across a site where this guy custom makes handlebar mounts and adapters for the MagicShine, and the prices are very reasonable! I ordered my setup from him and am convinced that it's money well spent. If interested just follow the link below to get to his home page.

Then click the large button to enter the parts catalog section. After that, select the Bike Lighting Parts section, and you'll find all you need on that page. He has two different styles of handlebar mounts to suit your preferences. I got my mount, adapter, and mounting kit, with Priority Shipping, all for under $20. He has very detailed descriptions with instructions also. Very professional, imho.

If this is old news, I couldn't find it on this forum. I thought it might be of help to some of you.

(I have no affiliation with the site whatsoever)

He also has tons of other things that he's done with LED lights and in particular the DX P7...

Thanks for the link :) I bought a MagicShine recently and love it for night riding, however, I agree the mounting system is the light's weak point, especially because I need to remove it so it doesn't "magically" vanish

You're welcome! Yep, this mount goes on and off very easily without having a rubber O-ring to stretch out in the process.

I noticed that he sells some Li-Ion batteries for $6 each, am I right that they are Li-Po?

Look at any existing lights you may have. You may be able to cannibalize their mounting system. That's what I did. My old lights had a nice slide-in, slide-out system where you heard a click to confirm they were locked in place. I transferred the bottom brackets from the old lightheads to my two new MS lightheads and they work perfectly. Here are a few photos (two are blurry, sorry, but my camera battery was low and is now recharging).

They're of the same chemistry of typical LiPo(LiCoO2). They wouldn't be referred to as LiPo, however, since they lack the polymer solvent that's typical of flat packs.

Very good info on this guy's webpage. They look like good bright lights and "more bang for the buck" than most other lights. I'll most likely get a couple of these for myself. Thanks for that link.

But instead of using the additional complexity of batteries, battery holders and charger system that he sells, can't we just simplify things and use a DC-DC converter to drop the 36v or 48v on our ebike packs down to 3.6v to power these MagicShine lights? Does anyone know where to get any of these DC-DC converters with a 3.6v output?
