Rode this 160mm offering from Merida this afternoon. Had a great session down some xc trail and some more serious down hill trail in Cairns. I was very impressed with the capability of the bike overall. Most of my tail riding was done in eco mode. With the huge gear rage this is really all you need for most track. Only few super step sections really need the more powerful settings.

The suspension was amazing to be honest it felt a lot like my 200mm Norco team DH... I guess that's 7 years for suspension development.

I've ridden the bafang 750w and the cyclone 1600w (set to under 1000w). And this little 250 feels strong maybe not quite as gutsy as these bigger motors. But the rideability with the torque sensing is really good.

It's a shame it is $6000 AUD.

If anyone gets a chance to ride one... Do it.

If you're in the market for a retail ebike. This one will be tough to beat. I've ridden the Lapierre equivalent. The Merida feels better to me. Plus the motor is smaller.

Are you hitting up the world cup races this weekend? couldnt make it up there for it =(

Yes, the write-ups I am seeing put the Merida e one sixty at the top of the list of current e-bike offerings from the major MTB manufacturers.

I haven't been lucky enough to ride one, but I just had a Specialized Turbo Levo FSR "Fattie" for 2 hours in the forest near Rotorua (New Zealand). Very very impressed.. it is just like riding a normal MTB, but the hills don't seem as steep and the world is flowing past a bit quicker than normal.
When the hill gets steeper, you have to pedal harder and / or change down, feels very natural, but you get more riding done in the same time. Very good for looking after my 61 year old legs on the uphill so they are still strong enough to enjoy the downhill!

I did double the riding I had done on my trance in the same time the day before, and I felt I had had a good workout, but wasn't exhausted like I had been the day before.

The Levo weighed 7kg more than my 14kg Giant Trance, and took a bit more effort to place it where you wanted on the track, but not too bad, and compensated by being more stable through the rocks and roots. And when you weigh me, my riding pack and the trance, that 7kg represents less than 7% increase overall.
The battery indicator showed 50% left after 2 hours fairly continuous riding, not sure how accurate that would be, but I doubt I had another 2 hours in my "fitness battery"!

Now, where did I hide my piggy bank...?

I'll be riding test riding another mid-drive enduro soon, so will have something to compare to.

And I want to ride the Lapierre Overvolt again while my Merida e160 ride is still fresh in my mind.
