Make your own mate! Bottle jack and a bit of framework and you're in business. Repco had a 2 tonne one on special a week or 2 back for $20.

Yeah good theory.
I tried that. Big Nissan hydraulic jack. Just wouldn't get the old axle out.
Wasted $50 on steel. Live and learn

What ever you paid for those axles from Tench was worth it. Can you take a close up once the stators is mounted? I want to see how the stator attaches with out the splines. You mentioned some kind of allen screw, really want to see it though.

Its got 4mm keyway steel. Tench has it loaded ready to go. Its pretty standard in heavy duty electric motors to use a key way only, however this has allot of torque compared to a high rpm motor.

BTW I messed up before: my axle is 14mm nuts, Chopbusta's is 19mm(3/4')

Also. Had a bad stack yesterday. Got my bmx going (no motor) with fat Odyssey tyres. I tested it in the local skate park. All was going well, dropping in etc. Then I bunny hopped into the bowl but I missed the transition and basically went headfirst into the ground. As my face bounced on the ground I realized I messed up.my helmet need replacing, it did its job. Bursa in my left knee was swollen but I iced it allot last night so not so bad today. Not going to work though cos too many stairs and standing all day would be too painful. Right elbow might need stitches, not sure. Right knuckles bit swollen and sore , but I iced that to, should be OK by next Sunday when the rain stops. Oh yeah and my chin is grazed. Luck I had that helmet on and gloves. I'd have beenin iintensive care without the helmet.
 
Still, running a 14mm axle over the 1/2 Imperial is a huge improvement. So is Chopbusta's axle for a cromo or 54xx? No one to question Tench, anyone that can make axles like these know his shit. but it seems to me a 4mm bolt would be subjected to shearing forces. Really would like to see a pic when you get around to it amigo.

4mm key steel is 4mm x 4mm square . so it goes the length of the joining part of the axle/stator.

And the fat axle is for a 3540 going into a bmx. So 14mm dropouts, 19mm nuts should be plenty solid and slot in no problem (except stretching from 110mm spacing to 135
 
Shit, now I get it, the stator isn't going to slip at all. Still want to see some pics when you axle is installed.

Re: the BMX, 110 to 135 is a fair stretch even for steel. Are you planning to run disc brakes on it ? If not and only a single speed freewheel you could machine the axle shoulder down a little for less stretch. Maybe down to 125mm ?

Thanks, yeah lucky I haven't got a glass jaw or it would have been nap time.

The 100-135mm stretch has been done before. I pmed someone that's done it and they said its no big deal. Can't remember who.

Hey mate, hope you get your bike back on the trail soon.

I broke my first clutch (well at least while it was in the motor), it made a loud crack when I was riding up stairs and started slipping badly about a week later. Luckily I had a spare.

I managed to break my Topeak rear rack too, luckily nothing was on it at the time, but I don't really trust aluminium seat post racks anymore.

yeah riding up stairs is fun, but i've learned its a bit of a no-no because stuff breaks. large diameter motor cycle tyres would be fine i guess. EG:

Don't think there's anyone else I know who breaks stuff more than you dood. How's the body and axle rebuild going?

Seriously though, wear a FF helmet and other protective gear when you're going to be riskier, your life and people around you will appreciate it even if you look uncool.

If it saves you one day out of a thousand, it pays off.

Or you could just become robocop?

Yeah well it was my first time at a skate park on a bmx so I'm kinda putting it down to a huge gap between my level of courage and my level of experience. Common cause of many such face plant accidents I'm guessing.

My brain is still not 100% but I'm at work. Been practicing some flat land bmx. I have a disc hub in the front laced to a Alex dx32 rim and fat bmx tyre. Rear wheel is being laced - dirt jump single speed disc hub in same rim.

Tench has sent the axles. Better get my motor ready. I have to rewire the halls I think.
I'll put up some arty bmx photos later.

Jay I'llbe sure to watch that vid and remember what not to do. I was making the disc mount lug for the bmx fork and totally lost track of time ... Oh well its almost done I'll be sure to show my jig method. Copying the placement of another fork.

While I think of it , any suggestions for top speed on this bmx? I'm thinking about using a turnigy sk63xx motor , 2 stage reduction, brake side drive. 2.5:1 x 7.2:1 = 18:1 . running 7k rpm max Iwould see a no load speed about 38kph (20" wheel)
Also adding caps and heatsink to an rc ESC. I pmed thud but no respondo. If I use a ca v3 I can keep the amps at a reasonably realistic level.
 
I dont need shrooms to take good bmx photos but they help.

I'mwaiting for money to transfer to my PayPal account so I can get some parts from chain reaction cycles; chain ring, chain, 104mm spider.
DJ hub should be finished being laced up today so I'll have to devise a method of stretching the dropouts and then bending them parallel as well.

Bozi, the fork is chomoly, the IS mount is steel. Yoda says you can do anything if you think you can ;)
