Motor Replacement

Hey I'm looking for some help, I have a ECOTRIC Rocket fat tire bike 26", i just bought it used and the motor needs to be replaced, i have contacted ECOTRIC they said it would take 2 months for a new motor, I need help finding a better replacement motor, and able to order it asap, any help would be great!

Based on the product page it says: "Rear Hub 36V 500W" which doesn't mean a whole lot.

My guess is that it is using a geared hub motor you could use just about any other geared hub motor with the same spoke flange diameter. If you find one with the same spoke diameter; you can probably re-use the spokes. It is unlikely that you will find a plug and play replacement other than from ECOTRIC; this means you will have to also replace the motor connector(s) to match the controller.

what makes you think its the motor that needs replacing, and not the battery?

Yep. You should first test the complete system to know exactly what need to be replaced. It is possible that only some minor problem had been wrongly diagnosed as a fried motor.

the motor needs to be replaces because some of the wires got ripped off the rear wheel by the last owner and, i'm not able to fix the connections by soldering

Yup, there are about a million youtube reviews on the bike, 500W geared Bafang.

do you know if the controller is fried. if the phase wired shorted when the wires got ripped off, then you may have bigger problems. for the wheel, it's a matter of either spending time opening up the motor to fix the wires, or re-lacing a new motor so either is going to be some work.

] I don't think the controller got fried, I believe the wires where damaged when the bike was powered off. I have taken the motor out and of the wheel, and = its not made to be taken apart the motor is assembled with rivets, images attached [attachment=0]compressjpeg.zip[/attachment

like 200-300 is preferable but im also pretty flexible

If that's your budget, then I'd measure the dropout spacing (I assume it may be a standard fat bike spacing), and buy a cheap kit with the rim already installed. Do some searching on ebay or Amazon.

I would repair the motor. No matter it is closed with rivets. It is an easy job that can get the bike running in a day, while a new motor can be long to arrive. I would eventually buy a new motor anyway because I would want a better one, but getting this one to run in the meantime is not a big deal. Drill the rivets, take the cover off, rebuild the wiring... Then close with new rivets or tap for screws.
