Hey Guys,

The new baby from Motorino looks promising: Motorino XMA
It comes with a 500W 60V motor and 60V batteries.

Was wondering what's the top speed you can expect with this configuration (assuming you go with LifePO4 batteries)?

if that 40A claimed are continuous and 60V LiFePo4 (no appreciable V sag). It would run pretty fast even on that 10" wheels. Around 30Mph

But it indicates: "Top Speed: 32km/h (governed as per vehicle class regulation)" And indicates that is limited to 500W.. so.. 8.3 amps continuous max limited?

It doesn't make sense to me.. I missed something?

To meet Canadian laws on e-bikes, it has to be governed to a max speed of 32 km/h and limited to 500W to be sold as a pedal assist bicycle (e-bike) which does not require insurance, driver's license or registration. If they sold it ungoverned and with max power, it would be considered a Low Speed Motorcycle (LSM) and would have to be registered, insured with a driver's license. Which is hard to do when the bike does not have a VIN.

This 60V stuff is just to lure customers in because you can't use the speed. The law says 32 km/h so I would prefer more power so you could go up a very steep hill and still do 32 km/h instead of slowing down to a crawl. But that's just me as I see these scooters as good and comfortable daily commuters, not speed machines for the weekend warriors.

If it's 1500w and less, and goes a 70km/hr or less, then it's considered an LSM. Any faster or more power, and you are in motorcycle land. In BC at least...

But anyway, one of those new XMA's was crossing the cambie bridge the other day, and it wasn't doing too bad. You can easily un-restrict your scooter, and do other mods to make it more powerful. Just make sure the pedals are showing and you don't pass a cop at 50km/hr, and you'll be fine.

And as far as the e-bike class scooters go, Motorino is the king up here. They are really nice well-made scooters, and the guys down at their shop are awesome. They fully support their products, and their competitor's products. I drop in there quite a bit and they help me with my EVT (as much as they can).

Great bikes, great service, great support. I'll recommend Motorino all day long.

Also, I don't know where you are. I can only speak to my experiences with Motorino in Vancouver.

You should edit your profile and add your location :)
