MXUS + ?? controller, A123 72V on a TBD

I'll be jamming my 72v 50 amps thru a $40 greentime with 18 x 4410 FETS. I can't help but wonder these days if the money is better spent on Lipo than more expensive controllers...
This is an inexpensive motor, so no hood ornament for me...

That's Leo. I'm probably just running cruisers on these at a lower power. So a much smaller one of his controllers...

His documentation is light on, and communication is limited, but if you ask for customization he is happy to do it.

... Shoot me a PM if you have any questions I'm here to help my fellow ES members out.
Help! Or just shoot me, please. A response to my MXUS build questions, on the technical specs of the motor, for spoke sizing, before I order up, would be MOST helpful. I believe I've got it right but have as yet had no reliable confirmation. Best.
Your good on the spoke length. Order them up!
Thanks for the confirmation roadrash! Will do.

Heads all to one side : refer to the section on dishing.
http://www.ebikes.ca/learn/wheel-build.html

This really is an excellent read, and doesn't take long. Short sharp and to the point.

"...This can be addressed to some degree by lacing the wheel such that on both the left and right set of spokes, all of the spoke heads come out on the right side of the flange. This will offset the base of all spokes to the right by the flange width."

It really sucks that the MXUS came with 4.4 mm spoke holes, when its advert was for holes cut for 12/13 gauge. What gauge is 4.4mm? Oh, that's for 8 gauge. WTF?
from earlier...

Please see the following specs for the 3000w motor:
XF40-45H Rated Voltage (V) 24/36/48/72 Cable Location Shaft center right
Rated Power (W) 1000-3000w Spoke Specification 12g/13g
.....
Meaning, from the manufacturer, they've drilled 36 spokeholes 3 mm in diameter. Simply going with that number and choosing a double butted Sapim Strong stainless steel 13/14 gauge.
I'm stuck until I can figure out what to do with these gigantic spoke holes. There was some miscommunication in the ordering up of these motors. Don't think washers are going to work out as an option.

Spoke head washers. It's that simple. Or drill new spoke holes the size you want. Either is easy, but the washers is the easiest.

The motor still sits in a box idle. Winter, 4 feet of snow now. Then the Storm hit... haha. So first it was the Ross Mt Whitney, then back to the Gitchee for a 2 motor drive. But the Storm got me thinking fat-bike, and there's this Mongoose dolomite fatbike? 7spd, disk brakes, INEXPENSIVE thread. And looking at the many MXUS build threads now has me reconsidering a moto-wheel and heavier 12 gauge spokes. Still no hurry and the time is giving me this reconsideration.

Here: build your own fat bike for $630 (or cheaper if you purchase in volume or use walmart)

Fat bike $299 (a +$100 step up from Walmart)

$299

ebike kit $329 (ok, that is a more expensive battery than storm will give ya)

That is DYI for $630..

I have a em3ev 12fet 40amp controller running the 3,000 @ 3,100watts. It's melting the em3ev precharg triple anderson connector. So here goes a 4mm upgrade and 5.5mm later. Plus my throttle stuck wot so must put the e~brakes on. One way or another get it right.
Plus this setup is a battery hog as I still ride wot, only 38mph. And she loves hills. Battery hates it. So I need a 80 amp. Controller ?

That greentime controller looks good for the price 50amp. Would work fine. 80 amp must drain a battery. Plus once you go that fast you're bitten by a different bug.
I was surprise cellman would use meltable connectors. Those Anderson's. Been cutting them off when I see them ~cockroaches.

Anderson powerpoles are only good up to 45 amps. If you're pressing upwards to 50 or 60 amps, everything - controller, wire, connectors, phase wires - need to be considered. Gotta know the amperage of your setup or you'll blow something for sure. As far as controllers, I'm looking at a xiechang, aka infineon, 18fet controller, model G-K125, having one coming for testing ... http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=64283&p=1001791#p1001791... http://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...hub-motor-controller-G/937734_1873092974.html

Hi Arkmundi...i have been following your threads for a while, and I am on a similar boat as you are. I am ditching my aluminum frame for something more durable. I just dont trust aluminum dropouts. I think I will go with a Surly 1x1 frame since the dropout is CroMo, and it should be more stronger than aluminum for sure. I recently even opened up a thread asking for advise on bicycle frame, and will take the advise from Chalo [Here's the thread: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=73843]

Let me know how your trek shift 3 works out with Mxus. I am also pondering on Leafbike 1500 Watt Motor or a Muxs :D , but I am not sure how much i would like the added weight of a DD motor.

How does the bike feel with the weight of the Mxus? Do you think it is well worth the upgrade over a Mac?

I hope you have better luck with your new build. I also had issues with Grin torque arm not fitting my GT frame, but instead of hacking it with pipe fasteners, I will take a safe measure and go with a Cromoly frame, but not sure how I am going to enjoy the single speed...oh well..the endless-trial continues...it just doesn't seem to end..
