My electric brompton stolen :(

Those trackers are good, but be aware that although it says 12v to 48v, it's only if you've got SLAs so that you can connect it to one of the four bricks, If you connect it to 12S lipos, it'll pop.

No go area, is where they will steal the police car if they leave it for 5 min. Too much paperwork to do if you let them take your cruiser. Cops are very practical about what can be done, and what can't.

Has anyone tried this tracker?

The reviews are mixed...

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. Two french women were found murdered in the camp shortly before my bike was taken... The site is about the size of a football pitch and like a slum.... The police just took my statement, shook their heads and said forget about the bike.

wow you have ghetto's like that in ireland?? what area is that in?
i know sweden/uk has no go areas as well.....crazy... the cops where i am pretty much own the city, so there is no such thing

Yeah, we don't have many, but a few small bad areas... The thing is the people in them have quite a lot of money (usually drug money)...

You in the states? Our police can't carry firearms (only special forces police have them, and there's only a handful of them in the country)

i am in canada
so by no go- they took your bike into a ghetto aka bad neighborhood, i know the US has these places too where cops wont even go due to gangs
when i do a search on no-go, it's also a term for areas taken over by immigrants the government couldn't integrate into society
and there are a ton of them-
police are armed here- are your officers allowed a beating stick at least? pepper spray? sling shot

'No go' literally means - don't go there. The term can be used in lots of ways. But you're right - the bike was taken into a bad neighbourhood and the police won't look for it there, or they said it was pointless even trying. By the time they get within 200m of the entrance anything that should be hidden is hidden.

It's nothing to do with immigrants (over here anyway). No beating sticks allowed here, pepper spray yes (but VERY rarely used) no sling shot.

No Go Areas allowed anywhere is a Total and complete cop out! This is why politicians and police are paid. It is not a volunteer job. Sounds like they took the jobs for all the wrong reasons. Just do it. They need to be shamed into it. Burn the whole thing down if they can deal with it in a civilized way. Not dealing with it is much like the little spot of cancer that is on the end of your nose. Lawlessness breeds more lawlessness. Enjoy!

Bloody frogs. Still, coulda been worse. Those nasty Bosch. Or absolute worst, some Canadien or other (I hear some of then sleep with Eskimo women. The horror! The horror!).

Still, do hope ya get your steed back. Better still, get back your bike AND the thief. If folks here had an address for you, some might send some tar, various brightly coloured or white feathers. Then plead with you to run the guy (or grrrl) out of town on a rail. Or maybe on some rusty old broken bicycle (no electric assist, of course).

Sorry to hear about your loss, be glad he didn't try to hurt you as he robbed you. We had an unfortunate internet-related incident a decade or so ago, and my wife implemented a rule that I can't bring people I meet on Internet back to the house. It's awkward at times, but a good maxim to live by - people are often very different between Internet and real life.

I agree.

I actually give my adjacent apartment building's address and no apartment number. When someone comes out to meet me, they have no idea which unit I'm from and I meet them in the driveway between the 2.

what is GPS tracker good for if the police or yourself do not want to confront thieves?
what do you mean no go area?
what is police for?

Sounds like the places where stolen snowmobiles go to in Quebec. :|
The cops take the report and do nothing.

I've always considered gps tracker, but they all look quite expensive. Something like 150GBP for first payment then 5GBP/month subscription.

And even with GPS tracker, I'm not convinced police would bother trying to catch them.

Sorry about your loss. The world is riddled with antisocial narcissist types.

I think having a GPS tracker would have been a needless expense in this case as chances are you would have told him about it.

At least you found out quickly that they were a psycho and emerged relatively unscathed. Some people end up marrying them and get completely destroyed.

What's a traveler site? Why is it so dangerous?

I see no one has answered this question. I'll take a stab at it.

Travellers are the Irish version of gypsies or Roma. They live in caravans at halting sites and are generally cut-off from the Irish population. They mostly live in Ireland and the UK.

They are potentially dangerous as a sizeable minority of them engage in illicit activities such as stealing, insurance fraud, welfare fraud, bare-knuckle fighting and there have even been cases of slavery in the UK.

Most people try to avoid them, if at all possible. Having said all that there are many good individuals but the closed nature of their communities makes halting sites very dangerous places to visit.

The Hollywood version with Pitt doing a passable impression for comic effect. Come to think of it that's probably the only half-decent Irish accent (sort-of) to be pulled off by an American. The Irish Americans are the worst.

..I'm so shocked I can't even think properly, how can something like this happen in Paris???

How long have you lived in Paris ?
I have only visited , but i know ( from experience) Paris has a huge international reputation for petty thieves, pickpockets, scam artists, bag snatch, car theft, etc, etc.
Like many of the big European cities, it has become a mecca for the low life of the depressed Eastern countries and north African immigrants. They see "easy pickings" from soft local city folk and rich tourists alike.
Paris was like that 30 yrs ago and is worse now than ever with an overwhelmed police force.
If you live in a City like Paris ( or London, Brusseles, Amsterdam, etc) , then you have to be very "street smart" to keep one step ahead of these predators.
You wont see your bikes again,..they will be in pieces or in a van back to Rumania , or in the River by now.

The GPS units linked here appear to have one flaw or another... back2me only has three days of battery life, and it only reports a single position instead of automatically reporting continuously to a server, while the integrated-trackers systems have several months of life and report continuously upon disturbance.

Telna mobile cards are $19/year, and a thousand texts a month. Couldn't be cheaper!

As soon as more adaptto controllers are available stateside, I'm buying one along with a rear light tracker and my KMX will see the world fearlessly. Insurance through our renters policy is only $20/year, too, so I will probably do that too. A tiny fraction of car insurance...

Sorry to hear this cwah. Some people would rob their own families. Friendships are worth little to them.

Trackers are ok until they take your bike to a block of flats. You need audio because the police won't want to kick in the crooks neighbours door, and the devices accuracy is generally not known. However, with audio you can watch a property and be sure you have the right place. Then if the law will do nothing, you can get the boys knowing your not about to make a huge mistake.

Travelers are people that travel. Often living in buses and putting on partys. I have been to some great nights on traveler sites and we used to keep track of them to go most weeks. Mostly they are ravers and there trade is drugs. They call themselves travelers and take offense to being called gypsies, who they dislike like everyone else does.
Gypo's and tinkers are the thieving one's that talk in silly tongue and are found ruining somebodys field till they get evicted. They have expanded out from ireland through the uk and are now in europe laying their version of a driveway.

Oh oh... "Gypo's" and "tinkers" laying their version of a "driveway"? I hope they aren't watching these forums. They might hear (read) about something we have in North America, called a "parkway". That's were some folks like to park all day long, in stop-and-go traffic, often in watt is maybe still termed a "rush hour", although it might last all day long. And sometimes extends into that time after the sun "goes down" (reminds me of a grrrl I used to know, but technically it is our planet - EVen that crazy spherical one, watt seems to spin endlessly, thank the gawds).

Anyway... Our "parkways", their building and maintenance, are paid for out of peoples taxes (well, some peoples taxes), regardless of how heavy their horseless carriages, trucks, etc might be. The "gypo's" and their "tinker" buddies would salivate at the thought of charging a fee for use based on weight.

Watt gives me an idea (this is where many other folks say "Oh oh")

We have parkways to, but a driveway is generally the bit between your garage and the sidewalk. The bit at the side of the lawn. A domestic parking area belonging to the house.
They use pressure sales and illegible language to muscle old folks in to having a new driveway to improve house value. The MO is to arrive on an estate, and do a couple to a good standard for people to see. Then start asking for half the money up front, and doing a worse job. Then when the estate is about done, they take a few deposits and just chip without doing anything at all. At which point some homes will have half done drives just left. It's large scale organised crime. The smaller groups will stick to repairs. Offering to sort out cracks. Doing so with an oil/dirt mix that looks great but will never set. This can also be the opening for washed gypsies to come along and fix it further as nobody wants a driveway covered in engine oil. It is a worldwide phenomena, leading back to ireland.
