GNG 48v brushless middrive, steel mtb-frame 6x 6s5000mAh lipo (15Ah 48v)

First of all:
Thanks!
Because of this fantastic forum im now up and building. I´ve been reading for some weeks now and feel prepared to this in a much better way because of all good posts.
The setup: middrive is choosen for good torque and versatility in hilly commuting.
In parallell with this project im searching for a good secondhand downhill-bike to build a high performance offroad-ebike.

The fun part will also be batteries/controllers, as this is something i got previous experience with.

This is after the GNG-kit was mounted for the first testride.

Do you really need all these batteries? How long will be your commute?

I am just saying that because with less weight, more fun... And this motor don't suck a lot of amps... Just think about that... Maybe 2 packs: one 12s1p and another 12s2p... And when you really need the autonomy, you can put the larger pack on your bike...

Thats a good point, thanks!
I got 4km commute, very hilly. Could probably do this ride with 5ah 48v but: I dont want to charge at work and what will happen in the winter at -20C degres temperature and 15cm snow?
Also i want the pack will be moveable from commute bike to dirtbike. The dirtbike could probably use alot of amps in the wood, i will do some testing :D

Whats a GNG midrive motor look like I specialize now (after years of all types) in tiawan cyclone & i live on a real hilly terrain. I make my own front weight batteries that make best ballance for all .

Today the batterymedics arrived from HK. Trying to be careful when plugging everything together, i actually like when things just starts smoking... but not expensive lipos which also can cause fire.
Despite all reading on es i cant figure out whats happening in the magic hvc-breaker from methods. How can it keep an eye on every cell when bulk charging?
maybe it actually is magic

Hi just a heads up on the big hit. I fitted my gng drive to my big hit and found the bb tube approx 72mm on the bike and the bracket on the drive is 68mm. I had to file off 3mm from non chain side of the bb tube. Fits a treat now :) .

Oiihaa!!  Just did my first ride!! Unbelivable feeling! Coming from motocross-riding and mountainbike this is what ive been dreaming of for years. Electric mx is still too expensive and i really like this lightweight nimble package of a E-dh-bike.
Thanks guys, the thing up running in just a couple of days work. Wouldnt been possible without the help of yours!!

Ready for the first testride. 44v Lipos in backpack for the moment.
No chainguides fitted yet. Will see were the chain gonna jump.

Dont know what to do with these chainguides. Orginal mounting doesnt work and it is a really tight fit for new bolts, anywhere :| :?

Nice! Love the wood block! Lol!

We've got the same bike, I'm interested in doing something similar to what you have here.. definitely not 15ah though, probably 10ah. Will stay tuned :)

Glad to hear that iovaykind and nusse! The only thing that was a bit tricky was to cut off 3mm off the bottombracket, as mentioned by craig85. The rest is a pretty straightforward mechanic work.
Next week i will build a hotswap batterymounting, and hopefully try the lyen controller at 72v.

Some of todays offroadriding (twist your laptop 90 degres...)

Dear christerljung, this battery setup is now abandoned, with the progress of your setup... I already have the parts (except the gng kit, that I am still waiting for...) to build a 18s setup, paired with a 12fets extreme modder lyen edition infineon...

Do you think this setup a nice point? Or too much power for a lightweight setup?

Hi Fabio!
It´s a great combination if you want a brutal bike that can hurt yourself... I cant walk normal today because that setup threw me off the bike yesterday.
Anyway, i just want to say: be careful. I also belive the GNG-kit will break down pretty fast with the huge stress on parts. But will see.
Here you can order an bunch of belts before it fails:

Cant wait to get on the bike again and enjoy that awesome feeling of fast noiseless riding. Maybe a switch on the handlebars for normal and brutal power?
Could be implemented in the throttle circuit.

Thanks, christerljung!

I don't want this level of power... In fact, I am searching the "holy graal": some nice torque, some autonomy, in a relatively light setup... And I want to be able to use the pedals!

Maybe 12s lipos 8Ah??? How many kilometers do you think I can achieve with this pack, using the throttle with parsimony, with a 12fet infineon controller?

- Fabio

@fabio: I think any belt brand will work as long as it meet the spec. Can´t find the width on that page, me neither. 15mm is the GNG-belt width.
To be honest i dont know how long you can travel with a specific amount of volt, amps and cells.
I just haven´t done that kind of test yet. The 3 hour of riding so far took my parallelled 12 + 12 cells from 4,3 to 3,9 volt. But i dont know what it means. Haven´t bought a cycleanalyst yet.
The power of 12S was fine, good for pedal-assist combination. Still pulled wheelies quite easy in first gear.

HA! Love that wooden block chain guide. I may just try using a front derailleur stop locked into position for my app. Definitely will follow your thread. You guys are going to have all the bugs worked out before I even get started.

Avid BB7s, 48V-20aHr LiFePO4, 7 spd cassette, park cassette removal tool, and a new chain breaker are on the way. Plan on carrying the batt. pack in a backpack initially. May pull the Cycle Analyst from the Papa motor Giant to use for testing this kit and the new battery pack. Hate to lose the cumulative data but my budget doesn't allow for..... wait! Has anyone tried the "Watts Up" meter yet? It's about $55 on Amazon...

Hey cyclebutt

I would imagine 20ah of lifepo4 in a back pack will be pretty heavy, I'm using a 10ah pack of konions made up from makita battery packs while I wait on Lipo coming from hk. It feels pretty hefty on my back after 10mins. But that might just be me you will know soon enough I suppose.
I'm using an rc watts up meter I got from eBay on my gng bike it has most of the essential consumption data you need just fit a cheap Speedo later on. :)
