Hello everyone,

I'm currently working on the design of an electric motorcycle that will be powered by the:

RineHart PM100 Series AC Motor. I'm trying to find the best possible contactor that can be used for the job (electric race bike with a battery of 400V), but I am unsure of which relay contactor to use.

The Tyco EV200AAANA is recommended in their user manual but I am unsure if the 500A and 12V rating will be enough.

If anyone has any recommendations or some kind of personal experience with this would be greatly appreciated thanks!

First you have to determine what the max current you'd be drawing, at the max voltage the system charges to, will be.

Once you know that, then you can size the contactor to handle *at least* that much, and preferably some percentage over that so you can ensure it will be able to break the circuit under load.

If it can't handle the current, it'll damage or destroy the contacts and/or internal wiring.

If it can't handle the voltage, arcing during connect or disconnect can weld the contacts together, or even start a fire.

If it's a race bike, you should check the race rules to see if they require a specific amount of overhead, or even if they require some other method of emergency disconnect.
