to all you who answered to my post on buying a bike, thank you.but i my have confused a few people here.first, let me point out the first and main reason why i want to buy an electric mountainbike.at 50 now ,and still hike and climb mountains better then some 20 yrs old.i am a big time bowhunter, did not want to post that last time, cause some people may get offended. I need to to as little as possible of pedaling ,not to sweat. If you stink buy the time you get to your hunting spot GAME OVER.a little kick off to start the bike is not a big deal ,but a mile or 2 of pedaling ,with hunting gear on and treestands etc, you will stink.and a mature buck or bear wont thing about getting with in bow range.at the end of the day ,coming out ,back to my car,i could pedal all the way.most of my spots are no more than a mile to a mile an a half in.speed is not a big thing 10 to 15 mph. is about right.again it is better to have more like we all want ,cause there are area where i can go faster.the trails are pretty much pack mud, or sand. Hilly, not steep mountains.i had people on 10 speed bikes pedal past me .why a bike an not a quad or dirt bike ,not allowed.but i do have them.to get my game out if i have to.dont have time to build a bike all though, i have a enough welding equip. and tools to do so.but no time.at least not now.i live in n,y. and i can also see me taking the bike out for keeping me in shape.Of course pedaling.I would like a bike i can build on if i have time later in year.I see these trail z bikes around but i would like something a little more solid and more of a hill climber.dont think i need to go more then 1500.00 dollars on a bike.im not beating the bike ,on heavy trails at extreme speeds like you see on these videos. so what would you people recommend.i was looking at the r martain r 10 or extreme eg i think. what would you pros recommend thank you.

Chances are the bikes with the motor on the bottom bracket, like the R martin, would climb good enough. I just haven't ridden one to say for sure. They are said to be able to climb well, and all you would need is some knobbier tires. With the motor assisting, you ought to be able to pedal lightly without raising a stink. Just a couple cranks from time to time when you start to bog down, using the lowest gear on the bike can do a lot.

Woo Hoo!! Another hunter on the board!! 8)

I'm not yet skilled enough (or rich enough to do both rifle AND bow yet) but I really appreciate your idea, I'm planning on hunting from a mountain bike eventually too, and I would say you might consider one of the geared hub motor'd bikes, or a cyclone powered bike (geared motor that uses a free-wheeling crank and a second short chain to turn your crank) and don't forget a good old DD (direct drive) motor, because nothing is as silent as a DD, and generally, any geared motor is going to make noise from the planetary gear drive, though some are still nearly as quiet as a DD, but the loudest would probably be older brushed motors and RC motors, you generally pay in noise for high efficiency high RPM motors.

Where do you live? Maybe you can find one of us near enough to where you are to help ya get what you need (assemble a kit on an existing bike, etc.)

You might look in the for sale section and see if there are any deals going on ready to ride bike. Personally, I think you're going to do much better on a kit added to an existing bike for both quality and price, most of the ready made bikes I have seen have lower end shifters and brakes, not really what you want on an E-Bike IMO.

There are also trailers out there for hauling out your critters with a bike, I can find the links if your interested.

I am marooned in Oregon at the present, but if my health allows I might be making it back to my home state of Montana to go after some deer and elk.

I'm curious how you plan on hauling your bow and such? have an old kid hauling trailer to put my stuff on, but I'd really like to rig up some kind of "Cavalry Scabbard" for a long gun to have easier access for when something stands-up on me while I'm still on the bike.

plan on putting bow on front handle bar, done it before on other bikes.treestand on back of bike rack, and knapp sack also.if i have to, i will weld brackets to make it work.i understand what you all are saying about more for the buck if you build your own, but at this time of year its tough .so if you had to buy a bike which would it be , i have no idea on electric bikes at least not yet.some of my trails i might ride on are even paved .
