For quite some time now i've been itching to get a good quality clamp on amp meter.. and today was the day !

This thing is cool !!.. i can delay learning how to measure shunt resistance and math for yet another while !!

Works some slick tho ! :D

Not cheap.. cost me 280 canadian dollars.. .. but should last me a lifetime !

Measuring AC current, cheap and easy to find.. DC current however took some searching.

DC clamp meters are good fun - accuracy sometimes is better as a guide rather than gospel - but with the currents people here run - thats probably not an issue.

$280.00!!!!?????

Sears has one for $50 to $60

measures 0 to 600 amps.. at 0.05 resolution.

expensive yes, but i got it locally and had the chance to test it for a few days before buying and like it alot, nice solid feel . I found an exact same one, slightly used on fleabay for 190 $ + shipping etc.. but this is not the type of thing i like to get as used.

Sears up here has nothing much on the shelf.... :|

There's probably a range of qualities. That said it is easy to pay 2-3x the price for the identical product.

These list at $59, but regularly go on sale for $19 at Canadian Tire. Just keep watching the web site or weekly flyer. I picked up 4 at the sale price. Good for romantic gifts.

Built in multimeter and AC/DC clamp Ampmeter. Mine has a consistent -2.5A offset on the Clamp Ammeter, but other than that works well. Tested it on both ebike and car starter.

There's an even cheaper clamp meter at Princess auto, $9 on sale, but it only does AC.

Some other handy things I picked up recently:
Mastercraft IR thermometer, reg $99 sale $29
Princess Auto multimeter with 1300F temp probe. (looks small like it will fit in a hub motor axle) $6.99
