Well, as it states, noob here ...first e-bike 'everything'... I had no idea this is as big as it is... I'm out from under my rock now and started reading up on it for about a few months and been lurking the E-S forums for a little over a month, just observing and soaking up what I can...so much information in here to read (and on electricbike.com), I literally haven't watched any TV since I joined this site (and I'm not complaining, as that is a good thing). My brain hurts though, I'll tell you that. Some of you guys in here are so incredibly knowledgeable in this field its crazy...the things you guys know make my head spin.

I know I could have made things a lot easier and just bought a ready made plug-n-play and ride on, but I got too excited when I saw LR's kit and reading all the good things you real e-biker's had to say about it, I sent him the deposit right then and there (joined here July 4th, sent deposit July 6th lol)...now I'm afraid I may be in way over my head here with all this, after reading more into it, as I should've in the first place... but I didn't want to procrastinate and end up prolonging the wait time...plus I needed something to help me haul cargo up hills in Vermont. I like the mid-drive concept, and heard LightningRods kit would give me what I needed...and go BIG or go home, right !?!...so here we are.

The bike I want to put it on is my 26" Cannondale Jekyll full-suspension w/Rohloff speedhub.
I have a 52v20Ah 25R battery pack... 18 FET LYEN controller... CA3.
Also have a 3-speed switch... multi-function switch... cruise control module.

I don't have the kit (3000w Big Block) yet, but I think I have everything else I need (although looking for possible torque sensor compatible with kit and CA3... maybe Beam TS).

So right now this is just an open thread in preparation of build once motor arrives... open to discuss anything "LR" related that you guys care to share with me, that I may have missed in all the other LR threads and help me get ready for it.

Any advice, tips, ideas, suggestions, personal experience, will be much appreciated... anything... steps to prepare myself...any testing I can do... anything else I can be doing while I wait... additional parts or tools I may need that I'm not aware of... the pain and suffering I'll soon be feeling... which is ok, as long as I can have my very own E-grin in the end.

Well, I've been known to ramble, so I'll go ahead and leave it at this...and again anything you guys (especially you LR kit holders) have to share, please feel free, and ask whatever you need of me, to help you help me.

Thanks in advance to all,
Joe

That will be a great ebike. I'm so jealous. The Rohloffs is ideal for this conversion, mostly. You might tear it up though, this motor is powerful. That would be cryawful.

One thought: I'd be tempted to put the shifter left side, and use a motorcycle twist grip throttle on the right. I would not mess with your brakes, just put cable sensors on the lines. Like these:

There is a great video on youtube about assembly, by Lightning Rods himself. It's four parts and very, very detailed, a must view. Here is Part 1 of 4 on youtube.

Hey slowhands,

Thanks for the input.

And yeah, LR said the Rohloff would be the best thing in regards to the final drive....and yes for the money, I would cry if something awful happened to it...hopefully their plastic "safety" mechanism with break first and save me the agony.

I wanted to go with a full or half twist throttle...but thought I had to use it on the left, because of Rohloff shifter (didn't think of switching the two)...and also heard some suggest it my be safer to go with thumb throttle so "touchy feely" people won't hurt anyone accidently, grabbing handle bar and inadvertently twisting the throttle...I am also in Connecticut right now and they are getting more strict with their E-bike "laws"...anything I can do to give the bike the appearance of some safety measures being in place...so I currently have the shifter on the right side...with a custom left-side thumb throttle (I think it might be easier for me to operate thumb throttle on left then it would be with twist throttle).

Brake system is 180mm disc with E-brake magnetic sensing switches... also going to have the multi-function switch wired to operate headlight, controller on/off, and motor cut-off...and I have a rear light as well... more "safety" features I can use to hopefully explain my way out of a ticket... along with the excuse of " the motor is also for my safety, to get me up hills, from a stop, pulling my groceries, and for acceleration to avoid texting and driving drivers from hitting me.

Yeah I saw all his videos... going to be very useful of course...so have them saved to my desktop ready to help me when I start.
