Don't remember who had the trouble, but Neps or whomever, if you want to see the outrageous pics, you gotta get the page to load.

Almost posted this in another thread, but nah, it's cryin' out for news o' da weirdness.

bicycle-automobile-protest-lets-bike-it-1.jpg

To celebrate International No Car Day (Sept. 22), some clever Latvian bicyclists from the Let’s Bike It organization dressed their bikes up as automobiles in Riga to show how much space people waste when they commute by car instead of by bike.

By hanging colorful car-sized frame from their bikes, they highlight just how absurd it is that a single individual should take up so much space during their commute.

Bicycles can reduce traffic congestion by saving space, but that’s not all they’re good for. They help the environment by reducing traffic emissions and producing none of their own, and they’re a great form of exercise for workers who might otherwise sit at their desk all day.

I guess that the pictures of bicycle parking needs are not enough to satisfy folks that very little of our precious urban landscape is ever saved when everyone starts ‘driving’ bikes.

Healthy activity meets unhealthy food. Will it fly?

Just when you thought you were sick of those golden arches, McDonald’s does something mind-meltingly awesome.

Introducing the McBike drive-thru *squeals like it’s Christmas Day*.

Although, it’s only available in Denmark, and for a limited time (boo).

It was launched as park of the #imlovinit24 campaign in which Maccy D’s has been doing random things in 24 cities around the world.

Most recently we were treated to the first official McDonald’s clothing line – but the bike-thru might just be the best surprise yet.

Cyclists have their own dedicated lane and are handed meals in cute sky-blue boxes that make us want to link arms and sing Kumbaya.

The world is right again.

A cautionary tale about how a bicycle infraction came back to haunt me five years later
by Randi Beers April 8, 2015 9:46 AM
It was one of the first warm days of the year when I unearthed my bike from its winter storage for a ride. Although I don't remember my ultimate destination, I do remember the police pulling me over. I'd been caught without a bike bell.
It felt like a real $110 bummer until one of the officers explained I had another option - I could buy a bell and prove it to the court.
I immediately rode to Kensington Market and bought a bell, a pink plaid number. I couldn't wait to show it off, receipt and all, to a judge, but months of silence from the court turned into years, and I forgot about the ticket.
It wasn't until five years later, in January of this year, that I learned my bike bell ticket had come back from the dead. That's when a representative of a collection agency called to inform me that my fine from 2010 was still outstanding.
Bewildered, I called the Ontario Court. The person who picked up explained that their records show I'd failed to appear for a court date in 2011 and was convicted in absentia.
And it gets worse. Because I'd subsequently defaulted on my fine, I not only had demerit points on my driver's licence, but my licence had been suspended. He said I owed $185, and if I intended to do anything other than pay the fine, I'd have to show up at the court services office in person. I told him I'd never received notice to appear in court in 2011 and now live in the Northwest Territories. He made it clear that I'd have to make the 5,000-kilometre trip to Toronto if I wanted to rectify this misunderstanding.
I paid the fine but was still curious to know how a bike bell ticket could result in demerit points and a suspended driver's licence, how I could be held responsible for the court's failure to contact me, and, of course, how it may all affect my credit rating.
So I filed a complaint, and that's when things really got weird.
The woman who dealt with my complaint confirmed that the Ontario Court could suspend a person's driver's licence and tack on demerit points for defaulting on a bike bell fine.
She also told me that police often say inaccurate things to people they ticket so they'll accept the fine and move on.
Describing the court system as "prehistoric," she explained that up until last month, administrators had only one way to get in touch with people: through Canada Post. Only in the past month has the court begun to collect phone numbers and email addresses.
That said, she assured me that an Ontario Court ticket would follow me to my grave. She said her office is still busy collecting fines dating back to the 1970s!
She did promise to start the process of removing my demerit points as soon as she confirmed that I earned them while operating a bicycle as opposed to driving a vehicle, so that's something.
I should have been more pro-active about keeping the courts up to date on my mailing address. If I could turn back time....
I still don't understand how the justice system is a just system if even its representatives admit they're stuck in prehistory and officers will embellish the facts to get people to accept fines, without giving that person a chance to rectify the situation in the case of a misunderstanding.
I suppose I'll never get an answer to those questions, but at least I can pass on my story as a word of warning. Boys and girls, if you get a bike bell fine, just pay it.

For one girlfriend, revenge against her ex-boyfriend comes in the form of damaging some of his most valuable possessions.
Twitter user @foolishnessfly2 uploaded a few pictures of her ex-boyfriend's Apple products floating around in the bathtub.
As many know, a slight spill can ruin an Apple product, so a dip in the tub will definitely ruin it.

I can laugh because it's 90 degrees F. here this week.

Now that winter is over and the snow has melted, we can all get back to mowing the lawn every week. But in other parts of the world, they're getting a head start on warm weather chores.
As Iceland's first day of summer still brought miserably freezing weather and snow storms to its residents, Johann Birgisson expressed his frustration by making a video of himself ironically mowing his snow-filled lawn.
The video, aptly titled "Icelandic summer//Travel to Iceland//Weather in Icel" shows Birgisson bearing through icy winds and snowfall to cuts through the snow. As he does this, a friend rakes behind him in a laughably futile effort to get summertime going.
"It was just a joke, something we recorded because my sister had started mowing the lawn in Sweden," Birgisson told mbl.is. "The reaction is a little stronger than we expected -- it's been watched around the world."

BALTIMORE, Md. --
A Maryland police officer has been suspended after being accused of biting another man's testicles during a fight outside a bar while he was off-duty on Cinco de Mayo.
The Baltimore Sun reports 31-year-old Anne Arundel County police officer Michael Flaig was charged Tuesday after Baltimore police say the victim accused Flaig, who was off-duty, of groping his female roommate.
Police say during the fight, the victim straddled Flaig to keep him from getting away and Flaig bit his testicles.
"The bitee actually got the better of him in the fist fight. After we broke them up is when he disclosed he'd been bitten in the testicles," witness Thomas Bourne told WBAL-TV. "He indicated he needed medical assistance. He was bleeding in his area after what happened."
When police spoke with Flaig, he was slurring his words, had bloodshot eyes and smelled like alcohol, charging documents indicate.
Anne Arundel County police spokesman T.J. Smith says Flaig, a 10 year veteran of the force, will be suspended and placed on administrative duties. Flaig didn't have an attorney listed in online court records.
Arundel County Police said in a statement to ABC affiliate WMAR-TV: "These charges are disturbing and we have an obligation as police officers to conduct ourselves in a professional manner on and off-duty. We will cooperate fully with the Baltimore Police Department as they conduct their investigation."
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Interesting to see that, in AU its a constant story of home affordability is a distant dream.
Not something I see on the news much about the USA but I dare say it might be a healthy sign in someways to see such prosperity that that McDonalds can't afford to stay open due to land value.
Really fascinating bit there that the restaurant where dirty harry said "go ahead make my day" is being demolished to build condos.

Man arrested near school in 'Star Wars' stormtrooper costume
A Massachusetts man is facing charges after he was spotted outside a city elementary school dressed as a "Star Wars" stormtrooper, complete with fake gun.

Forty-year-old George Cross donned the white plastic costume and walked near Brickett Elementary School in Lynn on Wednesday.

Cross says he just bought the costume and was walking through the neighborhood showing friends.

But the principal called 911 to report a man with a gun, and the school was briefly locked down.

A police spokesman tells the Salem News the way things are in today's society, "you can't have that" and said Cross "used bad judgment."

Woman gives birth, fights off bees, starts wildfire in Northern California
Let's see if I got this right
  • Woman is pregnant, at home with parents
  • Wants to "induce labour", so goes to a casino to visit friends
  • Leaves to go home, takes a new route, gets lost
  • Runs out of gas, where there is no cellular phone service
  • Gives birth to daughter in the forest, alone
  • Attracts a swarm of bees and has to "fight" the off
  • Decides to start a fire in drought stricken California to "get some help"
  • Is in fact rescued, by the forest service, flown to hospital
  • Apparently not married and has 3 other children
What a great mom, huh?
