Norco Empire 8150 build (page 20 pic heavy)

If you set the slipper up tight enough it will actually ease wheelie transitions and improve traction. I know this from regular dirt and trials bikes. When the clutch gets worn to the point that it's an on/off type deal, it would be more like a directly linked electric drive. When the clutch is new, the regulated slip is what makes trials riding even possible. If you just apply power directly regardless of traction surface, you get a bunch of wheel spin and loss of control. I know that the throttle can also modulate for this reason but from what I can tell, these HV160's spin motors well but are not the best at low speed control. I think that even with the chain setup you would have a much more reliable and ride-able bike with a slipper in there somewhere.

Also, ever thought about trying one of the new NuVinci's in the back wheel? I just got one and it's awesome. I'll post some test results when I get to that point.

These are just suggestions because I want you to have the most success with your build and be able to go ride that thing. Very exciting build!

I'd like to see 10kw peaks from this bike - especially when racing KiM on his HOBO cruiser! Will gear it to peak around 80kph like the Norco.

:: rumbles around in his box of sprockets looking for a 42tooth to up top speed to 80km/hr instead of the planned 75 clicks::  :p
You may have me on top end but i am confident i'll get there a hell of alot quicker than you can on a short wheel based MTB buddy :p
either way win or lose will be alot of fun, we can get Matt.P in there too with his cruiser hes beefed up the controller runs 75amp now
alot quicker than when he had it stock at 35-40amp...

Hope the new reduction setup on the Norco goes to plan and relatively hassle free mate, OH...what sort of range do
you have on the Norco? would you make 20km hilly ride running at around 1/2 to full throttle for the entire journey?
if not i will map out something shorter when you drop by for ride with Matt and I...

looking forward to the next time we catch up Paul ...all the best mate ;)

Is this on the MAC ?? Bring rope because you'll be towing him home 5 minutes into the ride!

Considering i havn't had a gearbox last a whole battery, i wouldn't have clue regarding range yet... :(

Ha! RC motor drives...

Sounds like Timma doesn't have a gearbox strong enough to enable him to start blowing controllers. ;) That's the real RC bikes weakness. lol ;)

HAHA...no...whe don't need to boost amps to frock his Frock does a fiiiine job just how it is with the 12fet infineon
you haven't been keeping up my '@ home net challenged frock loving friend'
Matt.P is on his 3rd set of gears keeps ripping them up...They aren't stock gears either (only the first set were) the other 2 hes done
were MEANT to b higher quality, lasted no longer than the originals and were louder...he now runs 75amp controller on his 1000watt cyclone.

Lets us know when your free on a weekend i'll tee it up with Matt.P hehe, see if we can't get him peanut buttering another set of gears trying to keep up :p
Turned the hv160 up to 200amp on the weekend couldnt resist, the ol girls still got it :p I wasn't brave enough to go the highest settings...wallets empty

Nah, just an experiment gone really baaaaaad!!! The #25 will be 'right! :D

No worries mate i am up for it any weekend have spoken to Matt and he can get away in the mornings on weekends he ius working evenings...You will have heaps left from 20ah ;) Chat soon buddy ;)

Now THAT! is how you mount a cylone motor boyz and girlz...excellent job mate! you will
at least have a back up bike now, should be very reliable!

please please please tell me you have some of these in steel

file.php

I SO badly need two of the cable holders for my 3 speed shifting cable....

Anyhoot...excellent job buddy, will definitely be one of the better cyclone instals i have seen when done ;)

+1
Fantastic mount for that Cyclone. I have been running a 1200w for about 18 months now, you should have a lot of fun with that :D

Make sure the gearbox has some quality lube inside to make it last, and check that Dicta freewheel on the motor is screwed together tight.
Mine came apart the other day, 10 miles from home, and all my balls dropped out

Timma dropped by today for a hand getting some
battery leads organized for his cyclone equipped
bike. He had a heap of wire but no bullets, i had a heap of bullet connectors
but no wire, so we pooled the 'resources' added a hot
soldering iron some solder a couple of 200amp fuses i had
laying about & we came up with this ->

Timaas_battery_leads.jpg

The fuses are prolly bit overkill but they do make it easier
to solder a group of 10AWG wires together, and its a neat solution...

I think once charged the bike is about ready to rock-n-role! look
forward to seeing how she goes buddy...all the best ;)

Slipper clutch
I mentioned this in a previous thread. However, I did not want to derail that thread on this subject. So, I will elaborate here;

Here is a picture of a slipper clutch I have on my Catrike 700-E. This is basically an off-the-shelf clutch I made a pulley to fit. There are numerous reasons I chose to do this;

#1 Driveline protection. These motors have HUGE torque and I wanted to protect the driveline from over torquing it.

#2 To eliminate belt skip on belt drive systems.

#3 Reduce harsh accelleration "Slamming" the bike forward. This gives a much smoother accelleration.

#4 Allow beginners the opportunity to ride my bikes without worrying about them being too harsh with the throttle....

...Anyway, this is a very reliable clutch that is easy to adjust and retains a very consistant level of slip over a large RPM range and over a duration of time. I have run this thing in various temperatures and humidity levels and the tension/slip remains consistent...
He got the clutch from McMaster:

Catrike 700-E build

...I just ordered a slipper clutch from McMaster. It will need to be modified for this application...

nice fuses, cut down ANL's???
once their sleeved it looks nice and tidy.

Timma please check your P.M when your back up home mate, i have another idea
for you to look at regarding the bottom bracket shaft widening your doing for me.

Deec...yes mate they were a couple of fuses i picked up from JayCar aaaages ago after seeing another member
using this method to make up parallel wiring harnesses, i really like the neatness of it all, the fusees pft, they
simply made it neat/easy to join the wires up weren't specifically used for their 'fuse' attributes, that said
if something extremely dramatic happens to short something out they are there i guess, would have to do something major
to pop some 200amp fuses though, bearing in mind this harness is for a 1200watt cyclone setup likely destined to be ridden
by Paul's lovely lady friend....hehe if he still has one after leaving my place rather late for a party he was meant to be at LoL

Oky doky, got a bit of ordering done in the last few days, now i'm skint... -

*HV160 from JohnRobHolmes - cheers mate

*1/2" hardened shafting and collars from Smallparts.com.au

*Bearings for 1/2" shafts and idler from Bocabearings.com

*10 feet of heavy duty #25 chain and connecting links from electricscooterparts.com

*14t and 60t #25 sprockets from bbman.com (huge range, good prices and even took a phone order for me, highly recommended :D )

bbman.com is very cheap idd, thank you for sharing :) Will place an order right now.

Bike looks awesome! I like the idea of cutting the Magura throttle grip in half, I might do that too to mine.

EDIT: Damn! "Sorry, we do not currently ship to the location that you have entered. ", why don't they ship to the Netherlands or Germany? I'll send them an e-mail.... If I have to buy it at SDP it would cost me about $80 instead of $35 at bbman, that's a huge difference.

Very nice work buddy, no probs on the wire mods have to do what you have to do to get things to fit
totally understand ;)

The bike definitely goes well, was flawless on the group ride surprisingly quick too! Guys doing cyclone
installs should really take a careful look at this build, its by far the best cyclone fit i have seen on this site to date
excellent job all round IMHO.

REALLY lookin forward to seeing how your re-do of the Norco comes together too, im
sure it will be some more amazing work.

All the best with it Paul...

This may end up being too much reduction as rough calcs give me 14kph in first gear and 45kph in 9th gear. I'd like to keep atleast 55-60kph in 9th up my sleeve so i will prob gear it up slightly later on.
The torque will be quite ferrocious so i expect it will be quite a wheelie machine...
I reckon! With a 14km/hr top speed it first it'll be a ball tearer although I bet it'd chew up standard freewheel pretty quickly.
Sweet score on the gearbox though.

Hyena, which freewheel/s are you referring to? GB output freewheel, freewheel crank/chainring or freehub? If you mean the freewheel crank/chainring, is it because of sheer torque or the fact that Timma is using a single bearing supported sickbikeparts ENO? I dumped my 22T ENO adapted to chainrings on freewheel cranks because the single bearing design meant it flogged out transferring torque in freewheeling mode (identical internals to the SBP FW). I'm now running a cheap-ass Dicta 22T with the machining tolerances of cookie dough and its coping fine with me jumping on the cranks so food for thought if the sickbikeparts FW spits the dummy on Timma. BTW i found that the 22T Dicta FW's have larger and deeper seated ratchets/pawls than the 14>18T Dicta variants which may account for some added strength.
