Ummm.. Started out in Victoria BC Canada, then sta
As much as I agree with the defendant, he F'd himself by removing his peddles...
I don't have any problem with peddleless scooters...you just can't call it a bicycle when you take off the single most important part of a 'bicycle'.

Hehe... "Exercise"... soooo last 20th-Century. (Not to mention energy required to accelerate mass, shaving peak outputs, etc.)

This kind of thing is as much a test of how well the justice system operates as it is a test of actual law.

This guy lost an 'impeding traffic' charge last year even though a quick search on the internet provides precedent case law from Ohio that should have established that he is traffic and was traveling at a reasonable speed. Either he represented himself poorly, or he had incompetent representation.

The bicycling community may have been mute on this perhaps because it involved an electric bicycle, or maybe because the guy seems a bit contentious and maybe not a great ambassador for the bicycling community.

He appears in Municipal Court today, so we'll see what happens there.

Yah. Court appearance today. And the Laws of Physics? (Accelerating mass.) I recall folks that still ride the antique (pedal-only) Poop-Mobile used to prize a light-weight bike as more "energy efficient" w/faster accelerations and faster braking.

impeding traffic.... thats one thing I dont think I will ever be accused of.

It's not a bicycle in its overall nature, and it's not a bicycle even technically once the pedals are removed. But why the authorities would bother with it if he's riding safely and legally is baffling.

I mean, we're constantly surrounded by truly dangerous machines operated by impaired and unqualified drivers (including cops themselves), but they choose to pick on this guy?

When you're fishing, all the fish swimming around dont matter... only the one on the hook does.

Found a posting from that George Bendycki in September, 2013 on FacePlant (sp?):

Seems a "scooter" is not the same as a "bicycle". Who knew!
