I use a step-through Currie Ezip to commute daily. The seat is cheap, uncomfortable, and what's more is probably a women's saddle  So I am considering replacing it with a nicer saddle, better suited to my anatomy. I like riding in an upright, old-fashioned sort of way, so I changed to classic-style handlebars, and thought of getting a Brooks B66 saddle, since it is well sprung and designed for that purpose.....

However, the price tag is a bit steep, and I don't want to pay too much for a part that some junkie could swipe quickly (I commute to a large university, so that is a concern :? )
So I was wondering if there was a cheap but durable equivalent. Maybe the seats that are used on Flying Pigeons? Can one get them?

I considered getting a Brooks saddle for my ride, as a Brooks is like a work of art that literally gets better with age 8) Butt I ended up settling for a Botranger Suburbia. They are a lot less cash, have reflective piping along the side, are EXTREAMLY comfortable and have a row of LED lights built into the rear edge of the seat. They also have a slightly smaller model (the Elite) that has a small storage drawer built into the underside.

I'd stay away from most of the knock-offs, you can just get yourself a nice used one on Craigs List and it's already broke-in! Nothing like quality of a seat made my a company that makes horse saddles, however, I'm sure there is a knock-off or 2 that is decent, but why when you can buy a classic used one for $30-50?

I almost passed up the chance to have the one I am using now, not realizing what I had, and I just tried it ONE TIME and it was amazing! I had been trying out 4-5 different seats and the brookes is just in a league of their own, (I even tried an older Italian leather seat and it was nothing like the brookes) and most people who have used them swear by them. I used to think they were just a "snob" seat, but now I swear by them too.

Also, if you get a new one, you're going to be braking it in for a month or so, just something to think about.
