The problem I see with planetaries is the noise. They also add length to the motor.

Matt

The noise of those RC or robot planetaries is sure annoying. I agree with you on that

Thanks for the project links in a previous post. I made my way to this planetary, which I could stick on an Astro motor:

http://banebots.com/pc/P80K-nnnn-0005/P80K-4-0005

But now on second thought I might want something quieter. Guess my options would be:
Bigger low rpm motor.
Belt drive first stage.
Quieter gear box. Not sure what would do the trick: angle cut gears? Oil filled? Would plastic gears be an option?

1500watts cyclone 6t noise is very loud. when i switch to the smaller (900watts) cyclone motor MY two ears were so much happy and relax. PLus 1500watts motor needs a kelly controller to run better. If anyone considering to buy the 1500watts kit, Consider any hub motor will be certainly a better choice. 900watts cyclone on 24t the troque is really plenty and strong pull.

Hmm... I would say any hubmotor better fits that description. ;)

I resemble that description. Don't tell me you were faking that EV orgasm the silence of powerful hubbies was giving you as evidenced by the ear to ear grin painted on your face after each ride.

What we need now is silent RC motors and gear reductions. If not then it will be my big ass outrunner to the rescue, and some of that silent chain stuff as a non-hubmotor drive.

Ebikes pacing traffic is now "highly illegal"??? What happened to murder and truckloads of cocaine?

I wont believe that Luke could join up with F.A.G.S (Frockmotor Advocecy Group Support.) <--enoob camez up with that one Hyena :p He will always be a non frock motor man, single speeds make him sleepy

I think it caught him by surprise too. It's something about the silence. The red rocket should be back on the road tomorrow, with a 20% boost and a slight weight loss. Then if all systems seem unstressed, it gets another 15% or 20% boost on top of that with another 3s or 4s on the pack and a 4-5lb weight hit. Then, if the front tire is getting a bit light, I'll throw a smaller frock motor on the front after some quick drilling of the covers, to get another 20% boost with only a 15lb weight hit. At that point I put my daughter on the bike and get the stopwatch out and start shattering some records around here.

Question. Is a frock motor still a frock motor if it's out of the wheel and drives a chain? I ask because my big ass outrunner started life as a frock motor on a lead sled scooter that only did 35mph.

If I really do get more than 25hp out of it, and it's close to the silence of a hubmotor, then I don't care what you guys call it, but I'm calling it Vacuum Cleaner (I mean RC Motor) Eater.

I think it stops being a hub motor when you bring it out of the hub. At that point, you get to take advantage of the optimal gearing and possible variable gearing if you so design it. In my opinion and experience, this makes a big difference in performance if designed appropriately. Though, you're used to high power already, so an extra 40% boost or so won't feel like much.

However, since it originated as a hub motor, I have a feeling it has a relatively low kv. The problem with that is that a lower kV results in a lower possible peak power at a given voltage, so to wring the max performance out of it, you'll likely have to use a higher voltage than it was intended as. However, the delta/wye switching may help ameliorate that.

) hee hee. just funnin ya hub heads .

Although i agree with the trans-gender take on the subject , who am i to judge . If your happy with your sex change then so be it. for now ill stick with the Motorized Electric Nonhub System. M.E.N.S :p

All jokes aside it would be interesting to see 100v 100amp x5 or 9C in a stokemonkey setup.

and back to topic , i was looking at a dual cyclone setup with my own ideas on installation but then i found this mars. more power, same weight as 2 cyclones, only need one controller and im guessing a better motor.

the cyclone's were $550usd shipped to my door (motors only) . the mars was 250 canadian and a 35 min drive. no brainer really.

It does leave a question unanswered though, i had intended on using the kelly controller on the cyclone motors . be interesting to see what kind of power they can handle before meltdown.

hehehe you bought out the M.E.N.S i see..we'll i think it only appropriate seeing Hyena was elected unopposed as president of F.A.G.S (Frockmotor Advocacy Group Support.) (Liveforphysics secretary  )you enoob should be the president of M.E.N.S (Motorized Electric Nonhub System)
I still proffered Manly Electric Nonhub System though enoobz :p

F.A.G.S President's report

I think there needs to be a distinction between the frock motor users out there.
It strikes me there are 2 main classes.

Obviously frock motors have their benefits - they're simple, maintenance free and as a result they're the motor of choice for most general users. They're the Commonly Observed Commuter Kind - or C.O.C.K's

And then there's the likes of myself, methods, liveforphysics, john in cr, icecube, arlo etc who pump several thousand watts through our modded hubs. We're more hardcore. HARD C.O.C.K's. We Blatently Ignored Guidelines for the Commonly Observed Commuter Kind motors.
B.I.G C.O.C.K's

I've mentioned it before but I now formally propose a new classification for BIG COCK frock motors.
Although Aussiejester and the RC/chain drive crew would have you believe we all wear skirts, when you've got a BIG COCK with balls under your skirt, it's actually a kilt.

So let there be frock motors for the COCKs and let there be kilt motors for the BIG COCKs

Whether you have a geared or small COCK frock or a BIG COCK kilt, FAGS, stand united.

It appears to be time for some racing, and I do believe my Clown Bike will surprise some people, especially if I put a featherweight on the saddle.

Well it will get you 4 penalty points for dangerous driving, breaking the 30mph speed limit within city limits, and that is assuming you have insurance and tax. Repeat offenders get 1 year's free bus pass.

I'm just glad we morphed from fag/ transgender to COCK / BIGCOCK  Hey John, got a picture of that red rocket without all the stuff in the background?

Bravo indeed Hyena.

My wife did see this and pointed out that all the "sword" rattling is most likely us compensating for our "itty bitty's" (her words). She also made me laugh with the observation that transgender folk seem to like big ones

Im just laughing cuz someone finally took the challenge and called us fro... err Kilt haters out for a good stompin.

That deserves legendary post status!!! Well Put Hyena...

secret handshake???

Etard,
What's with that handshake smiley? I think you need one of those little cute hubbies the talk about in e-bike general. 8)

noooo... all the F.A.G.S need to do is PM the postal address to President Hyena and
he is sending out free 'My Little Pony' sticker sheets to "brighten up" those dull and
boring looking frock motors, Hyena is leading by example...also explains why he
didn't want to add more lightening holes as i suggested, would of left less room
for his stickers!
