Overamping the 9 Continents Kit from 23 to 35 Amps- How To

I have resized the images.
My controller cuts out at 42v, I would cut to 38.4v (2.4v x 16)

Well I can't follow the traces from looking at your pictures, but if I was going to guess wildly I'd say the LVC circuit is near the center of this picture, to the right of the three red wires:

I'll take a closer look at my 9 FET controller tonight and let you know if it's close enough to yours to provide any ideas. But you should know, and please remember, I'm no expert. I'm just a beginner, and a mistake could damage your controller.

that picture is not the 9FET infineon controller.

not sure how this got into this thread but you can go look at my 72V upgrade thread and see where the resistor comes off the resistor divider and goes over to ground in the infineon controller.

but stick with the software option if you really have to use a LVC set by the controller if you use SLA or nicads. if you use lifepo4, the BMS will shut it down and you don't need the LVC.

The 9 Continents motors are being sold with several different controllers, apparently.

The 9 Continents motors are being sold by several different vendors, each with different controllers, and many are being billed as "9 Continents kits." It got me too, when I first saw this thread.

EDIT: I can't find any presence on the web for this controller manufacturer, so I doubt we're going to find a nice utility for changing the firmware in these things... I started looking at Atmel microcontroller utilities, then realized I'm probably not up to reverse engineering the firmware.... :)

No, it's not shenzhen, it's jhforest like mine. I'll post some shots of mine too for compare/contrast.

I got my jhforest controller from Danny at ampedbikes. E-bikekit.com is selling theirs with infineons, and Justin at ebikes.ca is selling his with sensorless Crystalite controllers. Not sure where psicoticos got his, but it's only got 6 fets. Maybe that Italian outfit at ninecontinent.com?

Pics of my AmpedBikes.com controller. Unfortunately the camera doesn't have macro mode.

Hey psicoticos -
How's your Mandarin? Maybe you could try calling the phone number printed on our boards and see what they have to say about modifying the LVC. Maybe they'll send you a cool little software utility you can share... with their permission of course.

I notice this e-mail address coming up a lot when I google that phone number: jonniel_fu@hotmail.com

that's it, why not just email him and ask if he will send you the technical documents for the controller, such as circuit drawing and ask if it can be reprogrammed for experimental purposes.

can you read the FETs to see what they are? it has 63V caps so can't be used at 72V but i think you could get away with running 5 SLA, but just barely. maybe the FETs are the p75n75 so they would run at 72V with the changeout of the caps to 100V.

i noticed they have 3 separate radial caps mounted through the board onto the S/D busses on the back, that is superior design, but will make it hard to put 100V caps in there if you upgrade to 72V.

you can look for the LVC circuitry in the form of a resistor divider bridge from the Vcc to ground with one of the traces running over to the PIC. i would expect the LVC lead is like #2 or #3, next to the shunt trace maybe, and next to 5V+ or grd. if you can find the bridge and can read the resistors and know the current LVC we can estimate how to change it. so look around the areas adjacent the Vcc, the trace to the PIC will likely go underneath and come up next to the PIC.

Hey guys, thank you very much for your answer,
but my technical english is very small.

I have bought my controller in italy, i'will follow your advices, now i try to write to jonniel_fu@hotmail.com
and I see wath they tell me......I'll let you know

Thanks for now

Have you got any response from JHforest? I would also like to modify my 350W version, but I would not like to reverse engineer the controller even though programming of Atmel microcontroller is rather easy.

Does anyone know how the current limit and low voltage protection works in this controller? It seems that OP-AMP LM358 is measuring something but I have not figure out yet how it works.
