Hey folks,

I live in Canada close to the U.S. border and regularly have stuff shipped to a U.S. address and then bring it back across myself (to save on shipping).

Does anyone have experience doing this with a fair sized (in my case Eric's 52V20Ah) 25R battery for personal use? Does it become a paperwork nightmare?

I've tried searching the forums but either can't figure out the correct search terms or the specific topic hasn't come up.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it's just the air shipping that's an issue. there shouldn't be any 'shipment' problem if you're physically driving it across - besides maybe claiming it.

You need to have Lipo approved before crossing the border. Basically, it does mean you need an authorization for import of dangerous products, that you can obtain from Canada Customs. Even with a small quantity, they can refuse at the border any dangerous chemicals on the list, and RC lipo is on the list.

By way of update.

I picked up the battery this morning and brought it across. No issues at all.

Had to pay the full 12% sales tax (GST and PST). No duties though and no issue with HazMat.

Further update.

Just brought another battery across. No issues. On the customs form they defined it as "Bike Battery". GST and PST only. No duties and no special paper work required.
