Hi Guys, I have the electric scooter in my avatar, that has poor headlight lighting and I want to know if these will help in lighting up the road?

The scooter is 48v, and the OEM/stock headlight bulb does a poor job of lighting up the road in front of me. I find the stock headlight seems to only light up 50 ft in front, and at 30 kph, it makes for some dangerous situations on dark roads… :(

Here are some 3w LED lights from eBay that I am considering buying…? http://www.ebay.com/itm/251506622006

I wonder if these are any good, and will they help to brighten up the road in front of me at night?

IAN

I use 'em, and just got a couple more. They're not as pretty of beam as my Stella 200 but they're only a few bucks and work up to 80V.

I used a chunk of 4mm bullet insulation to make a bushing/sleeve over the mounting bolt. Another needed improvement is a grommet where the wire passes through the housing.

Hmmm, good to hear that they work fairly well :)

Do you happen to have a link of the ones you buy?

Here's the last ones ordered Aug 21 that just arrived: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251506622006?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D251506622006%26_rdc%3D1

Other than some fingerprints on the reflector (doesn't seem to be a problem and could be cleaned if I bothered to open it up) the overall quality from this seller appears to use slightly better wire and mounting hardware than the previous ones I've bought.

EDIT - hahaha, just noticed it's the same listing you posted....

What a coincidence, and how do you find the lighting? What estimate would you give to the amount of lumen that they give off?

Do you find it sends a small straight bead, or a bit of a flood light effect?

I couldn't tell if it only had one led inside or multiple leds.

I know I have a small Cree flashlight with a square led inside, and it is very
bright. Is it those round leds or is it the square Cree style led?

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Ian

I use a 12w LED headlight and I feel like it's pretty bright, but maybe just borderline acceptable for myself traveling at around 20mph much of the time. The answer to your question depends on several variables, probably the most important one being how fast you travel.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-Motor-Car-PMMA-Lens-Led-Head-Light-Super-White-Eectric-of-12W-12-90V-/261118647712?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3ccbe25da0&vxp=mtr This is likely the equivalent of the light.

If you go 30+mph, I might suggest two of these 12w lights.

I also traveling 20 miles an hour, however I don't have any handlebars so mounting is an issue :(

It would be best if they have like an L bracket that I can use bolts and screw to the scooter fairing.

I noticed the headlights that I'm looking at our three or 5 W, do you think one or two of those would be adequate?

Single round LED. Is it as tight of beam as my Stella 200? No. Everybody will have a different opinion but I like how it looks and the minimal price is easy enough to find out for yourself.

$8.09 for 2 including postage, (and that's Aus dollars). These are cheap and handy, but if you are trying to get a better light than what you have now, you might be disappointed. There are some good LED lights out there and hopefully someone can confirm which ones.

Anyway, some other options.

Needs a bit more work but the end result would be neat (just to consider alternatives)

It's a ba20d mount bulb, in there I replaced mine with a Xeon 35 watt and it's great http://www.ebay.com/itm/Xenon-Lamp-35W-BA20d-ATV-Quad-Scooter-Headlight-Bulb-/271162131000?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f2285c238&vxp=mtr

Just have bend the contacts forward more to complete the connection in the connector
And one thing when looking for bulbs look for ones that give the Color temp ie 2700k that is a yellowish bulb while a 5700 k or 6000 k will give a white beam

Are you sure? Take a volt meter and check a socket, most easiest would be tail light or a signal light

What is the make?

I would look into getting one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/120W-Voltage-Reducer-Converter-Regulator-DC-DC-48V-To-12V-10A-For-GOLF-CART-/321326148049?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ad087e9d1 that way you can use standard bulbs

See about hooking up with dr bass here on the forum I believe he is in Montreal as well he may have some ideas

Nice find. I ordered some of the ones from the first post, I'll wait till they come in and see how they work.

If they don't work too well, I'm going order this one because I'm sure it'll be nice and bright. :)
