Post the ebike law in your area. Here is Florida

good video on ebikes vs. cops :bigthumb:

i will be asking obvious bullies to provide a badge number, and explaining that they are impersonating a police officer if they can't.

Here in Brazil if it's pedal assited, doest go above 25km/h and is below 350w it's a bicycle, if it has a throttle or is 350w+ or goes above 25km/h it's a "cyclemotor" and you must have a driver's license for motorcycles and put a plate in it, also can't use bicycle lanes.

The first video illustrates that nobody really understands the rules, neither the police nor cyclists. It seems to me that laws that are not understood by either party are useless.
If you can ride it at speed on the roads keeping up with car traffic, it really is a motorcycle or moped, the laws should reflect that, and it should be properly registered and insured. Who cares if it has pedals?

Current laws kiss up to big oil.
Make it hard to walk, bike, take a bus or train; force everybody to drive a car and generate big profits for big oil.
If people really want to burn less oil, there has to be a plan to encourage ebikes. so far, there is no such plan. there are bits and pieces, like feeble attempts to allow certain specific ebikes, bike paths here and there, but there is no plan to reduce oil.

Thats not true. We are being pushed into electric cars, whether we like them or not
Electric bikes are just a footnote. Most people don't want to get dirty or deal with the weather. I could see them making a difference in urban environments for short trips where you don't have to carry very much. The biggest problem is security,
where can I safely leave my $6000 bike while I shop?

Security for bikes is lacking due the the emphasis on cars over bikes.
Say, as a test case, you banned cars from a street. How in the world could security be provided for bikes? It would be impossible, you say, (as would employees of big oil would likely say).
BUT in a free market, i'd be out there with self service bike lockers. You pay say $1 for 1 hour, or $5 all day. Lockers are fully enclosed, like the small ones at an airport. The lockers have a police camera watching them, and bike theft is a felony and catching bike thieves gives cops a cash bonus. In my test case it would not be long until bike theft disappeared.
Nobody is forcing people into buying EV's. BUT if big oil succeeds in killing EV's again (like in 1910) then cars, all cars, may end up being banned, not just ICE. (after 100 million people have to move to higher ground after the sea level floods coastal houses) (like mine :D Not my idea to ban all cars, it is just the direction that government is heading, if EV's don't become popular, or make a difference, then you can expect all cars to be banned someday in populated areas. Sure out in the woods, rich people will be able to afford them.

$1 per hour? I pay 5 cents, but they need more locations. These can come in handy if you have a breakdown or flat. If you can make it to a locker, you can deal with getting home can coming back later to pick up the bike. If they get smart, they'd place a few around each shopping center.

Its not impossible. Its just that it isn't happening. Maybe it will, but I haven't seen it.

Its going to be harder and harder to buy a petroleum powered car going forward, no new light duty ICE passenger vehicles will be sold after 2035. I don't see Big Oil stopping that.

big govmint was foolish with the ICE ban. all they have to do is tax gas higher and higher. kind of like a frog in hot water. doesn't even notice until it is too late.
who loves ice enough to pay, say, $50 a gallon. Well the rich won't care, but you would not see many ICE cars at $50/gal.
I'm not sure about 2035. BUT what if DEMAND is ZERO for ICE? How many would buy ICE even at $15/gal?
I'd rather see the free market sort things out. No way anybody knows what will be in 2035. I'd say if there is DEMAND for ICE, they will still be made somewhere in the world, and could be imported if really needed and then they would be allowed. They would just delay the law. I view 2035 as a goal, or target, not anything serious. too far away.
The ban on NEW SALES will make CA like Cuba. ICE lovers will just keep fixing them, even 50 years later.
I still have my 1961 corvette 8) it is 62 years old :bigthumb:
will run if i put in some gas

That seems like a workable idea but there is nothing like that near where I live. The city puts bicycle parking racks near lots of strip malls and near LRT stations, but there is no security and they are often tucked away in a corner out of sight where bike thieves can work unimpeded. It only takes them a few seconds anyway.

We are getting way off topic here, so I will say no more.

If they want to encourage bikes as transportation, they need secure parking like in the video :bigthumb:
As for the price, i just made up a price maybe for NYC. It could be free at first to get the idea rolling.
For now, i take my ebike inside the store if i'm worried. For a train i would have to take a folding bike on the train.
The local bus allows bikes, put on the front bumper rack :thumb: not sure i want to lift my ebike 67#.
will have to practice that at home :D
