Problem with em3ev controller/mac motor

I recently bought the Mac 500 Watt Kit with the PAS that comes with a display plus a cycle analyst v3. The throttle, PAS and display are connected directly to the controller, and the CA is set to legacy mode (throttle not controlled by CA). Unfortunately, I do not get full power from the controller, even with full throttle. It peaks at about 180 watts for very low speeds according to the CA. Where could the problem be? What can I do? :pancake:

My first move would be to unplug the CA to see how it behaves without it in the loop, then try another throttle etc until you have determined which of the units you have connected is the culprit, then you will be able to either replace or delve deeper into that part to find the fault.

Assuming Tench's test points to the CA - which looks very likely...

My guess is that the throttle is plugged into the controller (legacy V2 mode), but the V3 is not actually configured for legacy mode operation so the CA is not 'limiting' the operator throttle (legacy v2 mode), but is instead trying to 'control' it (normal V3 mode). The mismatch between V2 hardware and V3 software configuration is locking down your operator throttle.

Please follow the installation procedure for legacy mode operation in the Guide, paying particular attention to step 2.a in section 4.6.2 on p.25.

It was indeed the CA. I found the problem: I had set ThrI->CntrlMode=Off (0V) instead of WOT. But now I have the inverse problem: The Controller is always going full speed as soon as I activate either Throttle or PAS and only stops when I apply the ebrakes.

And as Teklektik has pointed out, your controller may be wired for V2 CA and not V3, if this is the case the green throttle wire wire needs to be removed from the CA connector and connected as in the instructions he linked to.
I had this issue with my first V3 CA and a controller that had previously been used with a V2 CA.

Right now you are feeding the controller WOT from a V3, so you are getting WOT. Everything is working perfectly.

Seriously - you actually need to follow the installation steps - not just skip around...

You have a new V3 controller that is V2/V3 compatible - either will work properly if you just plug them in. But you want a V3 to behave like a V2 so you need to modify the V3 to make it look like a V2 so the controller behavior will be what you want.

It appears you skipped the wiring modification on page 16:

I would have recommended using V3 PAS by getting an AuxPot adjustment knob (PAS level adjust) and PAS wheel for the V3 - then you would not have needed to deactivate V3 features by going to V2 mode, but...

EDIT - sorry - that was probably a little snippy -- just a Bad Hair day I guess....
