I have the cheapest ($20) Chinese one that does the job for years but I now have a new requirement to lower the noise.
Would like to hear your recommendations (please no $500 heat guns)

Is that requirement coming from a wife

What are your heat requirements?
- Soften Paint or Heat Shrink, 750F, 1000F, 1500F are common, many are dual temp.

As for quietness, NTE HG-300D Mini Heat Gun

Haha, divorced and not because of a heat gun

It's for wire shrinks and large pack shrinks so the small one isn't suitable.

The $20 Harbor Freight one I have isn't particularly loud. It has two settings, 750 and 1500 watt, IIRC. It does stink of burning oil for the first few uses, though.

My chinese gun has two settings and the low one isn't loud but it's very weak especially for large pack shrinks.

I'd like one of those; I could probably do case-hardening with it (and some Cherry Red powder).
