Hi All,
i have aquired a razor pocket rocket for my granchildren but it is too fast for the youngest ones, any ideas as to how i can slow it down to around 5mph but speed it up again for the older ones? some sort of adjustable ohms pot im guessing?

Is it 24V with TWO tiny SLA batteries? (Sealed Lead Acid). If yes (and that configuration is common) then you 'could' install a series/parallel set of switches.

12V for the kids, and 24V for the adults. I would recommend only changing the voltage when the razor is off.

yes its 24 volts with a 250 watt brushed motor, i dont think 12 volts alone will be enough for the controller? it is currently capable of 15mph, way to fast for small children.

If the controller won't work with 12v, get a 12v controller from a kiddie car. Should be there on ebay somewhere.

The other option would be changing the gearing, but most likey that would be harder.

I'm not familure with the throttle. it will either be resistive or Hall sensored. But either way it should be possable to add resistance to it. Add a switch to cut the extra resistance in and out, so it can only give part throttle for the younger kids.

I did something similar to an electric jeep for my niece when she was 3. it was fast enough for her, but too fast for her mom

Tapping in to the throttle signal is the best way. It works even better as a speed limiter than a gas bike throttle stop. The motor rpm is more directly proportional to throttle position on an electric.

Our 2nd guy was riding double volts on his razor and jeep before he saw his 3rd bday.. Trust me it wont be long before they will be asking you to turn that throttle stop off! 8)

Thanks guys,
i think the potentiometer solution will be best, i know they will want to go faster but they still need to be safe while they get their confidence.

What! You didn't wrap him in three feet of bubble wrap first? Shame on you! And where's the training wheels? And air bags?

These days I'm rather surprised when I see parents that even let their kids ride a plain bicycle. I know one poor kid whose parents drive him to school... which is literally across the street from their house... and there is a crossing guard there. I bet he has to wear a life vest in the bathtub.

Dude, that looks painful! Careful you saw the smoking infant in whatever 3rd world country on TV right? Don't want them to come knocking on your door.

Falling is a part of life, I always tell mine - the bigger you are the harder you fall, so enjoy it while it doesn't really hurt too bad :)

ok there are 3 wires to the throttle (red +5v) (black common) (blue speed signal) i think? which wire should i put the potentiometer in and what value resistance?

Would love to help but I'm not sure which wire or value to use. I'd think the red wire and I'd try an adjustable pot. Would love to know also if you find out.

Hi All,
finally sorted the problem, i just cut into the 4.3 volt throttle input wire and added 3 diodes in series. works a treat, maximum speed is now around 5mph. my youngest grandson loves it! :D thanks for all your help.
