Rc controller question

i picked up a RCmotor and controller to get familiar with the equipment....on the controller it says :

BEC :3A/5V

does this mean i need a BEC?...or is there a built in BEC?

why woud it say BEC on it?...the controller needs a siganl to turn it on right? usually from a receiver....but why would it say BEC on it?

Battery Eliminator Circuit - low voltage output for powering servos etc. Saves having a separate battery.

ahhh... ok, so the BEC is already built in, and there's power going out of the controller via the built in BEC that would go to the receiver if i had one...right?
