I was around last year briefly with similar plans before an injury derailed my project. I've got a Specialized Hardrock mountain bike to start with. I've got my cart together with BMS battery and would appreciate any feedback. Mainly looking to confirm that I have all the smaller items I’ll need, and that the whole lot is compatible as far as you can tell.

Bafang CST 36V 500W in a 26" wheel.
S12S Controller
36V Battery https://bmsbattery.com/ebike-battery/816-36v145ah-case-08-bottle-panasonic-battery-pack-battery.html
S-LCD3 Meter
Pair of torque arms
PAS 12-pole sensor
King meter speed sensor
Thumb throttle

I see additional ports on the controller -
Hall sensor - is this built into the motor?
Brake - from what I've read, this would cut the current to the motor when I apply the brakes. Necessary? Seems I would just stop pedaling to accomplish the same thing.

What speed of that motor do you want ?
Hint ...

1) Only on Flat Ground Riding and want to go faster then get the 328 rpm and for Voltage get 36 or 48 volts . ( 48 volts for fast riding mostly around 20mph )

2) Want to ride mostly off road, up hills ? then get the 201 RPM motor and run on 36 or 48 volts.

Want to do some of both/ have the best of both worlds ? then get ... 201 rpm version of motor and 48 volt Battery .

If you have not been riding motorcycles for many years , then get the inline brake cut off , ( HWBS ) get two of them,
always best to get two of small items like that since shipping from BMS B is over $ 60 no matter what you buy.

Get extra throttle since they are very cheep and sometimes fail.

and get extra motor to controller wire just in case, and for future ... https://bmsbattery.com/ebike-parts/439-a-pair-of-9pin-waterproof-male-female-connector-cable-for-motor-parts.html

and a couple of tools if you do not have them ... https://bmsbattery.com/ebike-parts/659-cassette-remover-and-install-tool-parts.html

I prefer 48 volts, I would only go with 36 volts if I got a 328 motor ,

So best to tell us what kind of riding you want to do. ?
Do you have suspension fork on the Specialized ?

That motor is rated at 270, which seems a good medium. I'll be riding paved roads with a decent amount of incline. By my calculations that would give me a top speed of 20.9 mph. Seems fast enough for my liking

I was planning to get the tools I'll need on amazon, but I'll check out your suggestion.

I debated an extra throttle. Might go with a different style as the backup.

Yes, I have a front suspension, not sure on the details

Be sure to invest in some thick Kevlar tires and self healing tubes. Nothing more annoying than getting a flat tire on an ebike.

Yes, the halls are in the motor. There should be a speed sensor in there as well. That would be the white wire in the cable bundle. If you want to order a speed sensor, I don't think the King is the one you want, it's for the King meter.
The pair of BMS B. torque arms are a good idea, although you may not be able to make them both work.one on each side. But they are good for parts, as often I have used one of the levers with a fab'ed piece to make a solid TA ASM.

Like this.

On my Ezee geared(About the size of a BPM), no amount of futzing worked, so I used the V3 arm from Ebike C.A.

Ebike CA also sells a 2-piece, clip together, PAS disc that eliminates the need to extract the crank from the bottom bracket that a one piece PAS disc requires.
At least one ebrake is needed for PAS. If your bike has mech. brakes, you can use the Hidden Brake Sensor from BMS B.
If hydro brakes, read this;

Left-hand, half-twist throttles work well with ebikes because the right(chain ring) shifter is not used. It can be moved forward out of the way or removed and there is space for a left-hand throttle.
The BMS B spoike wrench should be ordered, as your wheel will likely be spoked w/ 13 ga. spokes.
An extra 9-pin connector is often useful and they are impossible to find here in the States.
Gd. luck

Note the S12S controller is about the size of a brick. Mine wouldn't fit on my original target bike. I plan to use it later this year, also with a 36V battery and 500W motor. The S12S will allow me to plug in higher voltage batteries, and I have yet to try a sine wave controller.

If just buying a controller, elifebike.com and others sell KT controllers on aliexpress with more reasonable shipping fees than BMSBattery.
