I just purchased a BikeE AT LX model from a friend with the goal of electrifying it. While I have ridden recumbent bikes for a couple of decades now, this is my first attempt at putting an electric drive on a bicycle and I would appreciate all the help and suggestions from members of this group. The BikeE was one of the first recumbents I rode and I have experienced the problems with the light front wheel - I mostly ride a Velokraft VK2 SWB recumbent.

I live at the top of a long steep hill so it would be good to have regen capability. I hope to put the batteries inside the front of the BikeE frame in order to help the weight distribution and minimize battery mounting problems.

Any suggestions for a hub drive electric motor that would work with the 20-inch 451 rear tire? It would be great to be able to add a rear disk brake if possible.

Any suggestions for a battery pack or a way to build a pack that would fit inside the BikeE frame?

I apologize for inserting my questions in this posting but just joined Endless Sphere in the past 24 hours and do not see how to create a new thread.

I am hoping to install batteries inside the square frame of a BikeE recumbent. The inside dimensions of the BikeE frame are 32 mm x 80 mm. I know how to solder but have never put a battery pack together. Do you have any suggestions for a premade battery pack or how to assemble batteries into one or more packs with a 32x80 mm or smaller cross section?

I just purchased a BikeE from a friend with plans to electrify it. After reading through this and a couple of other treads, I am thinking of trying to mount batteries inside the front part of the frame and use a rear wheel hub drive motor in order to be able to have regen capability.

Any suggestions regarding the best options for purchasing the various electric components would be greatly appreciated as this is my first attempt at electrifying a bicycle.

Since my friend has a BikeE, here are some links I have saved:
