Is regen breaking the same thing as EBS I'm only asking this question because if breaking with my hub motor consumes battery life id rather not use it.

Regen braking does not use battery power. It regenerates electricity back into the battery. True EBS uses battery power to bring the bike to a complete stop. Regen braking will cut off once below a certain speed. Usually ~5 mph.

Ahh, so I assume that It would consume power in my particular case I have a yuyang programmable controller with Bluetooth. The app simply says EBS with the option of 1-10power I've used it and I don't get a voltage drop or amp draw showing on the app however the controller temp was higher than normal (60c) I can't deal with that controller temp because I keep my controller right next to my lipos so I keep it off

A lot of vendors advertise regen braking a EBS, EABS, etc., etc. It's hard to tell which type it really is until you try it. the controller I have has both. regen braking is activated with a ground and EBS is activated with positive battery wire.

regen braking looks fine,
In my controller, KT-LCD6 (or 3) from conhismotor is this simple by switching on parameter C13 to 1
while braking you see then the loading feedback to the battery on the display,...
the big question stays,.. does this shortens the life of the battery? Using Li-ion this should not be a problem but I'm wondering if every regenerating braking feed - which happens a lot during every ride- not wil be seen as an entire cycle,.. and thus shortening the total charge cycles of the battery,..

I had about 16K miles on the last battery pack I had. I used regen braking about 4 times per mile, so that would equate to an additional 64K cycles on the battery pack over the 4.5 years I used it. So I wouldn't worry about the cycle life. I use rc lipo rated for a max 5C charge but charge at 1C or less.
