Since our brushless motor controllers are basically 3 phase AC converters, and the energy that comes back through those 3 phases is AC what is to stop someone from using their controller as a crazy super fast battery charger and (simplified) plug the phase wires into the wall. Clearly I'm not talking about literally taking bare wires and sticking them in the wall..... but I would like to know a bit more about how regen is implemented vs a wall charger.

I think most controllers don't implement regen "smartly". That is to say, they just bump the available current up to battery voltage. Chargers also detect the SOC of the battery and respond with different voltage/current combinations to match.

There's no reason why a controller couldn't do what a charger does (in fact, they should), but I don't know of any controllers that do. :?

Otherwise, you really could probably just plug the thing into the wall if you had the right battery setup.
