Replacing Hall effect throttle with Potentiometer

Hey all,

So i'm planning on getting a cyclone mid drive soon. I know it uses a 3 wire hall effect throttle connection, and i'd really like to be able to build my own throttle out of a potentiometer. I hate all the twist throttles, and on my gas bike i use a brake leaver as the throttle. I would just rig a brake leaver to a mounted platform via brake cable and then have a spring loaded situation probably with small plastic pully to increase the potentiometers diameter.
Is it as simple as getting a Hall effect potentiometer with proper voltage/ohms?

I have had many further thoughts on this. As far as i can tell, the cyclone controller needs the 0-5v connection, current and ground, so the potentiometer I listed should work.
The hardest part will be the translation of a mere inch to inch and a quarter of cable pull through a brake leaver to the full 90 degree rotational force. The easiest way would be to asymetrically mount the cable to a gearing system to turn a big gear and to gear up the final potentiometer with a much smaller one. I think the easiest way to do it might be freaking lego. Think about it; the lego gears are fairly strong and super easy to mount. This whole system shouldnt require more torque or force then whatever spring i use as a return mechanism which only has to be strong enough to turn the potentiometer. So overall, i actually think that some lego gearing and a couple peices of thin aluminum made into a waterproof box near the brake leaver might actually translate into an amazingly easy homemade throttle.

I have used the EV Warrior pot throttles for several projects. The only thing I don't like about them is that the potentiometer inside is one with a very long shaft and it's hard to find replacements that fit correctly.

It really is pretty easy to make a simple diy pot throttle. I used brass gears in mine and they're holding up great. Between the gears and the ability to use any standard potentiometers I can pretty much make my throttle feel any way I want.
