Retirement Time

Bank now closing an hour earlier, only allowing in a few people at a time.
Thundersnow clouds visible up on Mt. San Jacinto with snow observed falling but melting at around 4,000ft level above the valley floor.
Thundersnow also evident to the south over Mt. Palomar. High winds in the valley.
80 degrees F forecast highs next week, time to mow the lawn soon. Already greening up in spots. New roses and ice plant doing well.

Need to break out the lawnmower soon, then it will be irrigation time again.
Lots of birds around and the fields and hills are super green.
Snow views of the surrounding mountains, but not allowed to go there sucks. :x

Go with fake lawn grass, much easier to deal with, a bonus is the grass is always bright green compared to your neighbors.
As for weeding gardens, hey thats what fake flowers are for right.

Seen a few lawns that are completely gravel, an interesting way of not doing lawn care. Its actually more common now then it was 5+ yrs ago.

Two-thirds of the yard is already gravel. The grass will get mowed on my next day off. 85 degrees F forecast so I hope to work on it early. Plenty of other yard work to do. New weeds popping up due to the rain. :x

Got the yard mowed front and back today. Filled up the entire green can with clippings and leaves. Will have to spray the weeds next week and turn the sprinklers on after that. Also have some light pruning in the flower beds after the next trash collection day.

Got the pruning done, sprayed the weeds, pulled a few foxtails which seem to be more numerous than last year due to the amount of spring rain. Roses doing quite well with a few now decorating our kitchen. All the geraniums look great and the lantana are on the rebound. Turned the irrigation system on and it seems to be working well. Will have to mow the lawn regularly now for the next few months, it will be nice when the ash tree in the front yard leafs out for some shade there.

Took a Mothers Day trip to grandma’s in Desert Hot Springs via CA74. Every hill and mountain was still completely green.
Didn’t feel the earthquake, right about the time we descended down the famous seven level hill.

Had to take my wife to the ER at midnight the other night for a kidney stone. Was 4:am before they admitted her to the hospital for surgery. Out by 6:pm the next day, followed by an outpatient procedure Friday where the urologist pulverized the 10 mm stone and “vacuumed” out the pieces.
She says that it hurt more than childbirth.
She’s feeling much better now. A good time for a hospital visit, only two other patients on her floor. A bunch of unused Chinese Bat Flu space and equipment scared most people into staying home. :)

Kidney stones can be pretty bad. I had one almost two decades ago, and it was like a barbed knife being dragged across the insides of my organs and back, with some hot pokers shoved in there for good measure. It passed on it's own...and was apparently so small it didn't have trouble going past the bladder, but daaaammmmnn...that hurt for days.

Killed 3 black widows tonight out front. Will scout for webs out back tomorrow while spraying the weeds. They always come back to their favorite spots so I jack light’em at night and prefer to smash them but will soak one with Raid if they elude that.

Back to the hospital in Riverside this AM for wifey-poo to have the stent removed. She pulled the string to pull it out herself like the Urologist said she could and it came out leaving the stent inside. So they have to insert a scope to find it and remove it. :x

Well she’s out and doing ok so......
Across the street from the hospital just happens to be Red Lobster. Dining room open at 11:30 at about 1/2 capacity so we’re celebrating removal of the stent, St.Valentines Day, our 32nd Wedding Anniversary, her 56th Birthday, and my 65th Birthday all at once. Nice to finally go out to eat again. :D

Now Oliver has got a UTI and had to go to the Veterinarian for X-rays, pills and a shot.
$300.00 later he still has pain and trouble urinating but no kidney stones or fever. Poor little guy remembered the Dr. from last time when he had 9 teeth pulled. :(

Oliver seem to be doing a little bit better every day on antibiotics. Lab tests came back from the Dr.'s office for urinary tract infections were inconclusive but if he continues to improve we hope he will get better and not have to go back to the vet. He's eating and drinking better but sleeping a lot so we'll see. :thumb:

The antibiotics tend to be hard on the system too, so sleeping lots isn't unusual, especially in older dogs that I've had. Good that he's getting better. :)

Went to Desert Hot Springs again. Oliver doing much better so he could run with aunt sissy’s dogs. Was windy and “only” 99 degrees. Local hawk hunting in the canyon out back so had to keep an eye on the dog. Ate at the Chinese place nearby. Lots of leftovers to take home. :)

Welcome to the start of the smog season.

About 37 miles SSE of here. Hemet Ryan Field sending water dropping aircraft in that direction.

Wheat harvest in full swing, the largest and most productive fields get cut first. Hot, dusty, itchy work but the dry farmers seem to be doing well compared to a couple of years ago.
Wild mustard giving way to tumbleweeds as days heat up.
