Hi,

This is my first post/ thread so if i do make mistakes go easy on me. Any way i have been reading this forum religiously for the past year or so and decided to finally do my own build. I have got my self a Santa Cruz DH Super 8 2000 down hill bike and have decided to convert it to a electric monster. I have decided to go with a Crystalyte Crown hub motor from Hyena and have source lip0 cells direct from china, hoping to run a 88.8 volt pack at around 40 to 50 amps.

Nice solid bike! What's your plan with the battery location? Looks to be room at the bottom frame tube if done right (8-10Ah). Or mounted in a pelican case style box on a dual crown front fork has been done with good results as well. If the bike were for off-road use, I'd go with the bottom frame tube.

edit: you could also have 2 rows of batteries in a saddle bag type style on your top frame tube as well.

Im thinking of redesigning the frame to allow for what is known as an in house design where the batteries are mounted inside the frame (like stealth or phasor styled frame) but im having troubles designing the frame to fit the rear swing arm. :?

It will be quite a difference once im done but im hoping it will prove to be a nicely weighted bike once im done.

Ok Guys,

I have finally got enough money to get the ball rolling with this project. I think ill start off with buying the Matt Shumaker V4 astro flight drive with 4 turn 3220 brushless motor, then i think i might go for the Alien Hv brushless senorless esc but im having trouble finding a UBEC that can handle 66 volts and drop it to 5 volts for my servo tester. So im kind of stuck any suggestions?

Those frames are rare because most of them broke. Santa Cruz has too many welds and not enough base metal to make it look all fancy. If you search "broken Santa Cruz Super 8" you can see the carnage.

Cheers,

I had a look and it is nothing difftrent to other downhill models that have been totalled. And i dont really think im going to thrash it that hard
